Doc and Jays lose.

Blue Jays 1 Red Sox 6

This is going to be short, because I have a headache and well writing about losses isn't much fun.

Roy Halladay wasn't great and the Red Sox were. Doc only went 5 innings, only the 3rd time this year he has pitched less than 7 innings, the other two times being his last start before and his first start after his trip to the DL. 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 2 homers isn't a Doc type start though the 7 strikeouts was. Josh Roenicke pitched 3 great innings only marred by a walk.

Offensively we only got 6 hits, 2 by Vernon Wells, who drove in our only run. Travis Snider was 0 for 3 with 2 k's. He'll have games like this.

No Jays of the Day today. Wells came closest with a .096, our only batter with a positive WPA. He and Roenicke get honorable mention. Suckage are Doc (-.246) and Edwin Encarnacion (-.153).

Tomorrow we have an afternoon game to finish the series with the Red Sox. Brett Cecil (5-1, 4.35) goes against Jon Lester (9-7, 3.71). Cito, I'm begging you now, even though we are facing a lefty don't bat Millar cleanup.

Is it bad that I’ve pretty much come to expect the Jays to lose every game now, and when they do I don’t even care anymore?

by Icedragon on Aug 20, 2009 1:02 AM EDT reply actions

Millar will be batting cleanup and moonraker will bat 9th

For some reason…

With vernon not sucking that bad anymore it gets kinda annoying seeing guys like Barajas up before Snider when theres guys on base.

What a boring game

I took a friend to their first Jays game last night and it was not a good one. We have to go back because he has to see the real Doc!

Whoa how unlucky

First Jays game and you get to see Doc do one of his worst outings in recent memory…

Bad luck is the theme this year

and a lack of clutch hitting. I think they should switch E5 and Moonraker in the hitting order. The Jays hitters made a lot of pitchers look like superstars this year.

No kidding. Moonraker should definitely be moved up but Cito will keep him lower in the order to help “protect him”.

Granted at least now he is supposed to be playing everyday righty or lefty regardless so theres that.

Yeah I don't get it

9th or 7th…what’s the difference. Doesn’t it make sense to move him up there?

And I saw E5 hit last year in person…wow he looks way worse this year.

Yeah that will really kill a season.

Hopefully he can put it back together.

That isn’t a small nitpick! It means I can watch.

Hallady is declining

Look at what Cliff Lee did last night! He is 4-0 since being traded and posts an ERA of 0.82. What is even more impressive is that he went either 8 innings or a complete game in all the four games he pitched. He is showing signs of perfection while Halladay is showing signs of decline. Probably the Philly is celebrating in secret right now that they did not get Halladay and instead got a better Lee.

Shaking head.

How is he declining? He had one freaking bad outing!

Which really wasn't even a bad outing.

He struck seven batters out and walked two (one of which was on the benefit of two very borderline balls). One of the homers was legit, but the David Ortiz one was a pop-fly.

Over those four starts you mentioned, Cliff Lee has yielded 48 fly-balls and no homeruns. K/BB, an excellent 34/6
Over Doc’s four starts previous (including yesterday), he has yielded 44 fly-balls and six homeruns. K/BB also an excellent 22/3

Cliff Lee is a good pitcher who happens to be an a great run of starts (and has had some luck on flies not leaving the park), but I’m not quite sure how that means that Doc is in decline.

And, by the way, in one of Cliff Lee’s starts for Philly he didn’t pitch eight innings, he pitched seven.

it is a very what have you done for me lately world.

just the 3rd time the guy hasn’t gone 7 innings and he is declining. oh well….

by Tom Dakers on Aug 20, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Lee has pitched great against the NL yep. Against the NL….

Halladay has one bad outing and his career is declining, I am afraid that may be a bit of a knee jerk reaction…

And secondly

I agree Philly is probably cheering that they got Lee instead of Halladay

But the reason for that is that they fleeced the Indians and didn’t have to give up any of their top prospects and still were able to land a top notch pitcher.
