Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head!: 9/13 Game Thread, Jays at Tigers
Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers, Sep 13, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Hi everyone. I missed yesterday's game as I went to RFK Stadium to catch the DC United match, which didn't exactly end well, although it was as always a fantastic atmosphere. Anyway, it sounds like I missed an exciting Jays game.
Today's game should be an interesting one too. Ricky Romero and Rick Porcello go at it in a battle of rookie 1st-round draft picks. I'm sure jessef would want me to remind everyone that it's Morristown, NJ's very own (his current domicile) Rick Porcello making the start for the Bless You Boys.
Let's go Jays!

That catch is why we shouldn't sign Jason Bay
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

plus, the Jays can probably get comparable results from Ruiz for less than 1/10th of the price

They shouldn't put Ruiz in the outfield either

You know what is going to suck
When it comes to voting for Rookie of the Year even if the stats are similiar Porcello will get the nod over Romero because he plays in States and his team is playoff bound….

Romero’s showing has not been bulletproof — he has had some bad outings
Not to say that I do not like him, just that the case for Romero not winning Rookie of the Year is not fully attributable to playing for the Jays
by aagoodfella on Sep 13, 2009 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no rookie has been perfect this year. Romero and Porcello have very similar stats

Thats what I mean
I know Ricky has had some poor stats, but so has Rick

it will be interesting I don't know how you pick between the two...
there are others too that are close
by Tom Dakers on Sep 13, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep,
I understand you can make the argument for both of em (and others), all I mean is that if it is that close then it is going to him.
Regardless I am just happy to have a Rookie that is showing that much promise.

I think Niemann is clearly ahead of both Romero and Porcello at this point.
by REMO on Sep 13, 2009 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good point.
Like I said there are others and you can make an argument for a bunch of players and can’t really argue with it.

he was terrible yesterday.
I guess part was he made it obvious he hadn’t seen the jays in months

Yep, and then he shouldn't be doing commentary if he isn't watching.

I thought he did the games out West. I was really surprised to hear him instead of Tabler. Considering how close Toronto is.

I hooked up a projector and amplifier to the satellite, and voila, an 80 inch television to watch ballgames.
Can’t complain.

I thought it was Prince that had a problem with Cecil
not the other way around

cecil left prince’s mom. and lost a lot of money gambling. when Prince became a play Cecil wanted to have contact again. Prince said no way.

scoot could have gone to catch the ball in the air…..
by Tom Dakers on Sep 13, 2009 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
he made a quick calculation that he wasn't a sure DP so got the runner going home
runner saw there was a shot at the DP so he went home

my son and I are arguing the play still
by Tom Dakers on Sep 13, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
lol, i wonder if the level of thought sophisticatin you attribute to them in that split second might be a bit generous
by aagoodfella on Sep 13, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
scoot for sure thought to not catch the ball in the air.
the runner wait till the ball fell. only question I have is if Scoot could have turned the DP that would ahve been the right move still
by Tom Dakers on Sep 13, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea, i was thinking more about the runner
by aagoodfella on Sep 13, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
runner goes to stop them from trying for the DP....scoot let's it drop so they could.
