Florida Moon, Kiss Me Goodnight: 9/18 Game Thread, Jays at Rays

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays, Sep 18, 2009 7:38 PM EDT

I'm no fan of Florida but I do quite like the song that supplies today's title, by New Orleans musician Fred LeBlanc.

Scott Richmond is watching his chances to head into 2010 in the starting rotation evaporate as the season goes on.  Richmond has been awful in September and wasn't all that good in August either, and is seeing his once very good season slip away.  He'll try to turn it around today against the struggling Rays.  James Shields pitches for Tampa.

As for today's lineup, Marco Scutaro gets today off, and J-Mac gets the start at shortstop.

Ellsbury isn't a very good defender though

and Crawford has looked good in very limited time in center earlier in his career

I think he hasn't for a while

and it was only ever a temporary thing

You know the double leadoff

like the Rays sort of have with Upton and Bartlett.

Does that mean we have the double 9-hole order with Johnny Mac at 9 and Bautista at 1?

Bautista's OBP is inexplicable

especially against righties, but he’s better than McDonald.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

that’s a bizzare sight, shields giving up a walk, and Hill taking a walk

that was a real nice hit on a dropping pitch

that is the kind of pitch that Snider has been swinging over … Travis should watch that tape and gets some pointers from Wells on that hit

Cito with a quick hook?

But it’s not an 8 run deficit in the 7th yet

scott richmond not locating his fastball at all

he gets behind and throws a pitch right down the middle, his slider and curveball arent breaking as well as i remember in the philly game, dont know what could have led to such a decline in stuff

my son is arguing with me....

has there ever been a rookie that has hit 35+ homers that wasn’t rookie of the year?

by Tom Dakers on Sep 18, 2009 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

When was the Rookie of the Year award created?

I guess Ruth was a pitcher when he first came up

so he probably didn’t hit 35 in his rookie year.

Wally B erger

but only cause there was no rookie of the year

by aagoodfella on Sep 18, 2009 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

and it was deadball time...

he hit 27 one year and that was the record for a season at the time

by Tom Dakers on Sep 18, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

wow

Kessel gone to leafs for 2 1st rounds and 1 second round pick … he signed a 5-year deal for $27

Bottom 15 teams in record have their pick protected

If compensation picks from unsigned draft picks the previous year fit among those, then it’s even more.
