Florida Moon, Kiss Me Goodnight: 9/18 Game Thread, Jays at Rays
Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays, Sep 18, 2009 7:38 PM EDT
I'm no fan of Florida but I do quite like the song that supplies today's title, by New Orleans musician Fred LeBlanc.
Scott Richmond is watching his chances to head into 2010 in the starting rotation evaporate as the season goes on. Richmond has been awful in September and wasn't all that good in August either, and is seeing his once very good season slip away. He'll try to turn it around today against the struggling Rays. James Shields pitches for Tampa.
As for today's lineup, Marco Scutaro gets today off, and J-Mac gets the start at shortstop.

sigh, no Ruiz
Cito must really not like him
Platoon of Gabes?
Gross/Kapler.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
here check this out: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/09/discussion-crawford-or-upton.html
this expalins the Rays options for the offseason with the outfield
how can tabler say crawford is a better defender than Ellsbury, when Crawford
plays left and Ellsbury center
Ellsbury isn't a very good defender though
and Crawford has looked good in very limited time in center earlier in his career

I think he hasn't for a while
and it was only ever a temporary thing

You know the double leadoff
like the Rays sort of have with Upton and Bartlett.
Does that mean we have the double 9-hole order with Johnny Mac at 9 and Bautista at 1?
Bautista's OBP is inexplicable
especially against righties, but he’s better than McDonald.

that was a real nice hit on a dropping pitch
that is the kind of pitch that Snider has been swinging over … Travis should watch that tape and gets some pointers from Wells on that hit
Cito with a quick hook?
But it’s not an 8 run deficit in the 7th yet
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
And why Wolfe?

Against switch hitter, then lefty

Then another lefty

Camp has been good in the long relief role

I'm guessing becuase of going three the other night he's off? Not sure
how they’ve managed his work load over the year.
Did have the off day in between, though
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
scott richmond not locating his fastball at all
he gets behind and throws a pitch right down the middle, his slider and curveball arent breaking as well as i remember in the philly game, dont know what could have led to such a decline in stuff
So should Wolfe

I'm still thinking they likely will go half and half
some they can sign easy and some that will be over slot types
yeah I would think that would be the plan...
we could end up with a ton of high picks next year….if scoot signs somewhere else
Cito brought out the hook on Richmond faster than this

my son is arguing with me....
has there ever been a rookie that has hit 35+ homers that wasn’t rookie of the year?
When was the Rookie of the Year award created?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
I guess Ruth was a pitcher when he first came up
so he probably didn’t hit 35 in his rookie year.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Wally B erger
but only cause there was no rookie of the year
I think I've won our little debate other than guys playing before the award....
he was trying to tell me hitting 35+ homers wouldn’t necessarily win you the RoY, but I think it always has
wow
Kessel gone to leafs for 2 1st rounds and 1 second round pick … he signed a 5-year deal for $27
And he tags up
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Bottom 15 teams in record have their pick protected
If compensation picks from unsigned draft picks the previous year fit among those, then it’s even more.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
thanks, just curious if the jays pick would be protected regardless of a decent finish,
and it seems like it will be
The RISP woes continue
up and down the lineup
