With Every Mistake We Must Surely Be Learning: 9/23 Game Thread, Orioles at Jays
Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays, Sep 23, 2009 7:07 PM EDT
Some more George Harrison Beatles love tonight. No Millar tonight, so maybe Cito is learning - at least we're only seeing him against lefties. Ruiz still can't get a runout though - I'd rather see Snider in Right, Lind in left, and Ruiz DH-ing, no? I enjoyed Tom's post today about what's the point of the rest of the season. I guess my answer is that I watch because it's baseball and I like baseball. And no matter the situation, certain players and particularly the young guys are always fun to watch.
Tonight, Scott Richmond faces off against Jeremy Guthrie. Richmond has really had a tough second half but maybe he can turn in a good start against Baltimore. He has to be very frustrated at this point, but he's likely to still play a role next season because when does a team, especially the Jays, not need it's 7, 8, and 9 starters at some point during a season? That's not to say that a strong finish to the season wouldn't be very nice for him and give the Jays a little more confidence in him.

Actually, it's a great night!!
The kids are fed…their homework is done…Mike’s out golfing all evening…and I have nothing to do but watch the game! I’d say life is pretty good
hello

thanks, she's great
though she has developed a comic book and video game obsession that is a little frightening for a 2 year old
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
what sort of comics?
we didn’t have a video game thing for the kids until this year….always wanted to see their faces a bit more. Comics I’m all for tho
it's funny because she doesn't ever watch TV
but she saw some of my spiderman and x-men comics and got really interested in the characters.

course you are some early yet, but if she gets the idea that holding something with words is good, you are ahead of the game
oh she loves reading
and being read to. Having two reading nerds for parents probably helps on that

yeah that's a big part, if children see parents reading that helps a lot.
We have so many different kinds of books in the house I never accept that the kids say they don’t want to read
just like old times, haha

great question
not sure about who the Jays are playing in interleague, but I’ve never been to Coors and I hear Denver is fun. Toronto is always a great place to spend some time, and the Bay Area would be cool.

will have to see the schedule though
it’s a long shot for them to play a series there

I think they play in Arizona, Denver, and San Diego
and host the Dodgers, SF, and probably Philly.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Monterrey is the farthest south
I’ve been in California

"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
At least we got the guy home from third
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Rance, preventing runners taking an extra base
does show up in the stats. Just maybe not your stats.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
So that's a triple and a double where he took third on the error?
…dare we hope for the cycle?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

They do at Geno's
which is just another reason to go to Pat’s
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
haha Genos
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
he isn't going to get many innings from Cito the way he's going
assuming Cito is still around of course

I'm a huge fan

other than ERA
which is a misleading stat for relief pitchers, League’s numbers really are extremely impressive

9.2 K/9, 2.5 BB/9
Only bad is 1.0 HR/9 . . . and though his groundball-rate is down, it’s still at 56%, so that HR-rate should come down next year too
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
I was told off about it a month or so ago....
someone was telling me he was Billy Koch. Obviously had never seen Koch pitch
league has awesome ptiching for sure
if only he could tame the beast
I almost never remember my dreams
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
do you wake up on your own
or to an alarm clock?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
On my own
Or lately when my cat tries to eat my toes.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Hmm
I think that when you wake up on your own you’re more likely to be in R.E.M. so you remember your dreams more, but I could be making that up.
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
Wouldn't you be more likely to be in REM when the alarm clock goes off?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
For myself, I tend to remember my dreams more when I wake myself up
rather than when the alarm clock wakes me up
I thought R.E.M. was lighter than deep sleep
so you are easily awakened. Whereas alarm clock can wake you up from deep sleep
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
REM is lighter than Deep Sleep
but I don’t think it’s the lightest kind of sleep.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Rod walked
and wasn’t promptly erased on a D.P.
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
. . . only Rance commends a guy for missing third base
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
