Oh boy
Jamie and Pat are calling the game from field level
by Tom Dakers on Sep 25, 2009 7:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
it must be cool to be at field level
but I don’t think those seats actually give a great view of the game
by SuckaMD on Sep 25, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I paid $200 a game for seats like those when we played at the Dodgers a few years back
and yeah, the view isn’t great.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
by Torgen on Sep 25, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'd love to sit in those for one game
but I think the view is better from higher up. The seats I get are in the 2nd row in the 2nd deck a few seats over from behind home plate, that gives a great view of everything except the outside corner of the plate to RH batters
by SuckaMD on Sep 25, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Had a seat at AT&T for the very next game
extend the 3rd base line through the first base line stands, about 20 rows back. Better view and much cheaper.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Cito said today if the jays don't have a shot at the playoffs in 2010 then maybe
it’s time to trade Doc
by ClintB on Sep 25, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think
after the Rios and Rolen trades, it became time to trade Doc
by SuckaMD on Sep 25, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If we hadn't traded Rolen mid-season we would have had to trade him in the off-season
if he was so unhappy. (And I don’t think the opportunity to get Stewart would have been there.) And both moves freed up salary that could go to Doc.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

i like both the Rolen and Rios moves
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i have mixed feelings on Roy
love the guy and would be pleased if he retired a Jay
but if he is not going to re-sign, than trade him for value as soon as you can
of course, that is probably the consensus view so probably a wasted comment … oops, hit the post button already
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess
I just thought that those trades signalled a concession that the team likely won’t compete in 2010, and thought that trading Halladay became a good idea at that point (BTW, I was very much against trading Doc at the deadline, before the Rios and Rolen trades). Before those deals, I thought the team could be improved this offseason to contending status (factoring in the guys coming off injuries), but I’m somewhat less sure now.
Anyway, I’m sure this has been argued to death while I have been gone. I probably shouldn’t add to it
by SuckaMD on Sep 25, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, dumping the Rios contract was just a good business move, IMHO it was not admission of anything except that they made a bad decision when they signed the contract
by moving Rolen, yea, I agree that was probably an indication that Jays were not going to make the playoffs although obviously that decision was made mathematically for the Jays long before the trading deadline
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If you look at the deal the Red Sox supposedly offered
that everyone else can’t figure out why the Jays wouldn’t have accepted it if it was offered, I would have taken it. The only position player in the deal was a left fielder, and we already proved you need more than the best pitching in the league to win games.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

somebody in another thread
posted a comment about a conspiracy theory for why Ruiz not being played
because Ruiz was making JP “eat his words”
does anyone know what the comment was in reference to?
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:18 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
JP said Ruiz feasted on inferior minor league pitching and really couldn't cut it in the majors.

JP has been pretty vocal in the media the last two days, some interesting quotes, such as
"If we’re going to play in the big man’s division, and we’re not going to spend that money, it’s going to be really hard for us to compete with those teams."
by ClintB on Sep 25, 2009 7:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
might want to start playing Ruiz instead of Bautista
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and this one:
"Let me make this clear: It doesn’t matter if J.P. Ricciardi is the GM, or Joe Blow is the GM. Two years from now, five years from now, seven years from now, the reality that we face in Toronto is the division is not going to change. The Red Sox and Yankees are not going away. If the Yankees want to, they can take their payroll to $300 million."
by ClintB on Sep 25, 2009 7:28 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wasn't the Yankees' payroll $100M when JP was hired
and they were already the free spending bullies of the league?

From the Globe and Mail:
“The GM also did not rule out the possibility that all-star second baseman Aaron Hill might have a future at shortstop, dependent of course on Hill agreeing to the switch.”

I wonder if he ‘ruled out the possibility’ of me playing short?
by Tom Dakers on Sep 25, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think it matters because I think JP won't be here next year

he seems to be acting like someone with one foot out the door
by aagoodfella on Sep 25, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea, i was going to say “didn’t rule out the possibility” and actually saying Hill might play SS are two very different things
a reporter could ask JP “what are the chances of Hill moving to shortstop” and than JP gets a cell phone call and runs off … and voila, you have “didn’t rule out the possibility”
perhaps this is why some pro sports mgmt warn players not to pay attention to the media

THE THREE FACES OF ADAM HILL
here are some comparative defensive stats for Hill at SS, 2B, 3B
3B – innings=286 – error per inning=.017 – field%=.949
2B – innings=4272 – error per inning=.007 – field%=.988

based on defense and positional scarcity, but Hill plays a premium defensive position as well.

Keith Law was talking about a philosophical shift
