As We Walk to Fenway Park in Boston Town: 9/28 Game Thread, Jays at Red Sox
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox, Sep 28, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Hi everyone. Hope things are going well. The Jays, having concluded the Canadian portion of our programme, will finish the year on the road. Scott Richmond and Michael Bowden will face off, Bowden making his first start of the year.
Today's title comes from a Jonathan Richman song and a great one. Almost makes me not hate the Red Sox. Almost.

And still no Ruiz. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but there is a nagging voice in my head that still keeps questioning the logic

Wouldn’t that be a shame if Boston didn’t have their number 1 for the playoffs… ahhh

Mine are being delightful screaming children.
AND! Over the weekend one of them somehow managed to delete my MLB 09 road to the show profile…… I was playing that character for over 4 friggin months.

I was so irked…. By randomly pushing buttons she somehow managed to navigate to the delete screen, select yes, select the specific file and then select yes confirm again. Unbelievable.
But on the plus side, when I re-created the character I was drafted by the Jays

Here's to Richmond
In Las Vegas next year. He can be emergency if someone gets hurt, but he better not make the team next year.
by Rhinos on Sep 28, 2009 7:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
he was terrific early in the year...I get the feeling pitching more innings than he ever has before is catching up to him
he’s likely tiring.
by Tom Dakers on Sep 28, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I have a feeling he just isn't very good
After one of my baseball games the team watched a Jays game and one of our guys, that knows more about pitching than I was explaining how Richmond would be as good as he was early all year. I argued that he may slow down, but would be fine. I have changed my mind. He isn’t very good and should be the AAAA type and move out of the way for the prospects and be just a stop gap emergency guy.
by Rhinos on Sep 28, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well anyone that can throw 94 MPH will get chances...
he needs a pitch to throw against lefties and then he’d be good…he’ll never be better than a 4th or 5th starter but he could be good in that role.
by Tom Dakers on Sep 28, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
fair enough
But I would rather see Zep, Cecil, Purcey up here next year with Roy, Marcum, Romero…or something.
by Rhinos on Sep 28, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah you might get that...
but then don’t be surprised if richmond finds a pitch to throw to lefties and does ok. Like all the young guys, once you get well beyond what you have thrown for pitches in a season you’ll tired

they call that a Fenway Park singe?
was it a Jason Bay in left field hit?
by aagoodfella on Sep 28, 2009 8:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
in other words, would a really good left fielder have grabbed it?
by aagoodfella on Sep 28, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nah It was a low line drive off the wall. Would have been a double in most other parks

by jlahey on Sep 28, 2009 8:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i would move buatista to 3rd and put ruiz in right to see what happens
by aagoodfella on Sep 28, 2009 8:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
it seems ridiculous
that we are on expanded rosters and after one injury Kevin Millar is our best option for third base

that doesn't mean we couldn't call up more...
or that we shouldn’t call up more. Is stupid not to have a backup at SS or at 3B

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

Casey Janssen
would be a better option at 3b

I think Casey played first base

tough for me to stomach
that I support a major-league team that is too cheap or too poor to fill its roster with players who are not Kevin Millar

speaking of money
yesterday at the game, man, they were selling the hell out of concessions
there were 39k people there … I am sure the did at least 500k in food sales …
the jays store, they had a sale on, was so backed up that they are closing the doors and only letting in a few folks at a time
good gate day for the jays fer sure

games like that
tell me that if the team invested in the team, fans would reward them. I bet the Rays don’t come close to that for their last home game

they would avg 35-40000 /game if they spend 120+ on 2010
by Andy Mc on Sep 28, 2009 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
especially if they spent it smart
seemed like they took payroll to $100 and while attendance went up steadily, it was obviously going down this year no matter what because of the economy, so the team decided in advance to cut its losses. I hope the calculus is different next year

he did not know fer sure, but siad that there is a contract dispute which is keeping it closed — contract dispute between Jays/Rogers and Renaissance hotel I guess
maybe Hugo can step in and intermediate to resolve the dispute

by Andy Mc on Sep 28, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
