Taking a Left, Going by the Fenway, By the Marshland Park: GameThread for Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox, 29 Sept 2009, 7:10 PM EDT
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox, Sep 29, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Well, the Jays look to continue their fine play of late when they send Ricky Romero to the hill tonight against the Red Sox and Clay Buchholz. Ricky's had some real control problems, since 29 August, he's started six games and walked 23 in just 34 2/3 innings. Against a team as patient as the Red Sox, it's going to be important for him to sort those issues out early.
Hopefully Lefty can figure out the Red Sox, who have batted .377 / .506 / .652 in 4 games so far, with 17 walks (and two hit batsmen) against just 20 strikeouts. In those four starts Ricky has managed to get through five innings just once (and didn't make it out of the sixth in that start). And hopefully our bats can figure out Buchholz, who has 3-0 against us with a 1.35 ERA over three starts and 20 innings (16 K, 6 BB).
Yep, Kevin Millar is starting at third.

You made me really confused for a minute
then i realized you meant bautista
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
Barajas is C.
Anyways, Im begining to really dislike Millar. I hate his type of player. Let the kids play.

i am pretty sure he meant Bautista is in right
and that bautista should be playing third instead of KevBo
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
Damn you fake umps!
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
33 for Lind vs. 35 for hill
race to the wire
i loved that story about how he asked to play third every day
Cito, do you think there’s a reason the other managers said “no”?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
the Jays home bench is on third base side.
Is Boston’s home bench on 1base side?
Is there some sort of convention about what side the home bench is usually situated? Are the Jays contrary to that convention?
Flip Flop Fly ball has you covered

I am pretty sure
it used to be set up so that the Visiting dugout faced SouthWest, so the team would have the sun shining in their eyes. The pitcher’s mound normally had a pitcher’s left hand facing south (hence southpaw), so the visitors should be on the rightfield side
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
I come home
And its 5-1 in the 2nd? Who are these guys?!?!?

163 last year, so could be or maybe hes just reverting back to norm
since he has been struggling for some time now

throwing in the majors is different than the minors...I think he's tiring a bit...
still isn’t doing bad, considering most guys have a down time in the season
How so?
Aren’t pitches pitches regardless if they are in the majors or in your backyard?

more tension on pitches here....different pitching to the red sox than the
ummm insert minor league team name here
164 in the minors last year
170 in the majors now plus 14 in the minors so 184…closer numbers than I though
especially considering that he missed a few starts
so he has probably thrown more innings per start at MLB. Also, probably has to throw more pitches per inning at MLB
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
perhaps more pitches per inning in the majors
pitch counts are more important than innings
Hey, the 2 umps are here

Must be fakes
They don’t usually call balls and strikes on the Jays

need a win tonight by the Jays, one more tonight by the Jays and one tonight by the Rangers
and than the Jays (and we) do not have to endure BoSox playoff celebration
if the redsox lose and the rangers do, too
we don’t have to watch the celebration, because it would be after our game is over, right?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
also
if the rangers lose and the redsox clinch tonight, they will probably send the b-squad out tomorrow night against Doc
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
I can think of crawford and damon
anyone else?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
luke scott from orioles....
that’s all i can think of..well players who hit over 300avg
fyi

Cloisonné up?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
The first scoreless half inning of the game
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
That's 2 monster Adam bombs
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
how many homeruns has buchholz given up now?
five?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
Yep
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Or at least fill it with sand
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Not pretty though
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Millar is a triple short of the cycle
Sadly, he’s Millar.
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Who's the oldest player to record a cycle?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
Millar jumps over the basernuner to complete the double play?
Who is this guy?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
I can't imagine he would....I like ours better...
and when he catches on everywhere I want to see Jesse interviewed on sportsnet to explain it
i yelled “come on get a good hit lunchbox” or something like that at the game on Sunday … everyone around laughed – i thought, i better be careful or that name might stick
Probably a big eater
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
i believe his response was
“because i like to eat”
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
As much as I think it is incredibly stupid that Millar is out there at 3rd in September...
I’m enjoying watching him tonight
batting practice for Lind
3HR, i dont think i’ve seen this in a long time
poor kevin
even when he has a good game, Adam Lind hits three homers
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
his good game will be overshadowed
now he needs a triple and lind needs another homer like tony lazzeri and lou gehrig
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
drawing a major league cheque for no apparent reason....
but just for you I’ll lead off the recap with a couple of paragraphs about him
if he manages to eke out a triple for the cycle
but Adam Lind hits four homers and gets all the attention, you wouldn’t feel at all bad for him?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
no.....but I've got kind of a blind spot as far as Millar is concerned...
but if he hits the triple I’ll likely have a heart attack
lots of highlights in this game
i hope the jays sweep the resox so we dont have to see their celebration of barely making the playoffs
my son was trying to figure how Millar could get a triple...
I think it would take two outfielders colliding
Maybe three outfielders colliding
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
I would say the most likely way (aside from him hitting one out of the park and forgetting to touch the plate)
would be if someone tries to catch the ball with their hat
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
cito had an unusual choice of pitchers on sunday
tallet, wolfe and camp
Except that somehow he had been successful against them this season
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
not frasor i hope .. he is looking a little gassed

He didn't pitch yesterday
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
warm up Wellsie
cuz u got some mound rushing to do if you get hit
maybe a well time bat slipping out of his hand

they should have “protect the hitter” rules in baseball like “protect passer” rules in NFL
if any pitcher hits any batter with 2 or more hits in a game, he is automatically ejected

What do you do with Hill?
They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.
i just mean he is a good guy and always scary at the plate
he is the kind of guy you want up there in a pressure situation
not saying i would swap himj for hill, cuz hill has those characteristics alos, just saying he is good that way

yeah....
my son has just done 20 minutes on why we don’t have anyone on the bench in September….told him I’ve been on that for a month now
if we get a good game from doc tomorrow
we could get the sweep. makes me want to grab a broom, my doc jersey and three hundred dollars cash for a ticket and get in my car right now
