Make your predictions: Scott Downs

Snakeface has been part of our pitching staff for the past 5 years and has been terrific. The last four he's been a very important part of our bullpen. He pitched in 81 games in 2007 with a 2.17 ERA. 2008 it was 66 games with a 1.78 ERA. Last year he had injury troubles but still got into 48 games. His complete line:

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Scott Downs 1-3 48 0 0 0 9 4 46.2 46 18 16 4 13 43 3.09 1.26

I'm hoping he has a healthier season this year.

Bill James has him pitching in 55 game, 16 saves, 54 innings, 19 walks, 45 K for a 3.67 ERA.

CHONE has a similar prediction: 57 games, 49 innings, 18 walks, 42 K for a 3.86 ERA.

So give us your guess for games, saves, ERA and anything else you'd like.

I think Bill and Chone are spot-on. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Where will he be?

It seems the real question this year is not just “What will he do?” but “Where will he do it?” I can’t help thinking that AA is going to move some of these “excess” pitchers. Apparently, he’s been offering “packages” of guys for certain “young shortstops.” I’d LOVE to be a fly on the wall of those talks.

hate him

He once taunted me for a good ten minutes at fenway and then told me that when I get to be as successful as him I could do the same. Mind you I had a Jays hat on.

I hope he goes 0-6 with a 12.55 ERA before being DFA and being picked up by the nationals.

How many people are in Fenway? 40,000

So he singled you out during a game or warmups and stood there taunting you?
I obviously wasn’t there, but are you sure he wasn’t provoked just a little?

Ohhh Brett...One more year! One more year! One more year!

For some reason my reply posted to the post and not your comment. Whoops.

It was during warmups and we were in the front row of the green monster trying to catch bp homeruns and he asked if I wanted him to ‘throw a ball up’. Normally it wouldn’t matter to me but I was with my little brother for his birthday so I said sure. He then proceeded to throw the ball straight up in the air over and over again and occasionally bounce it off the wall right below us while laughing and someone in the area yelled that he was being a jerk and that it was the kids birthday bc no one could believe he would taunt people like that and then he replied with his other comment about when you are this successful blah blah blah. Thankfully Mr. Troy Glaus came over and threw us up a ball that he was nice enough to autograph too. He said it was his birthday too and said happy birthday.

Oh and the best part was that Glaus hit a home run into the monster seats just about 15 seats to our left in like the 8th inning and Downs gave up a run pretty early in his appearance. Karma.
