Hoffpauir lost to Padres off Waivers
As mentioned by Nadia in the Playoff game thread, the Padres picked up Jarrett Hoffpauir off waivers. The Jays had to move someone off the 40-man roster to activate Dirk Hayhurst. Hoffpauir could be a good enough utility infielder but is no big loss.

Jose Bautista was a utility player
I bet the Pirates didn’t think much about losing Jose. Jerrett Hoffpauir shouldn’t be a loss though…

Bucs Dugout
Here is an article and comments regarding the Jose Bautista trade on Aug 21,2008 . Some of the comments are funny in retrospect:

Here’s one comment:
“The inconsistency in this blog is baffling. Bautista is a bit player and we should be thrilled that someone gave the Pirates something for him. Hopefully the Pirates fascination with 4th outfielders and groundout prone utility infielders is over.”

Yes, it is too bad I wasn’t around then. I would have laughed in their faces and informed them that Bautista was going to hit 50+ home runs in 2010 :)

What's the latest on Hayhurst?
Losing Jarrett Hoffpauir isn’t a big deal it seems, but since it’s to protect Dirk Hayhurst does that mean that Hayhurst is going to be healthy and back in the mix next year? Anyone know what his timetable is – ready for spring training?
Someone asked him on twitter
if he’d be back for spring training, and he was like, abso freaking lutely lol, so yeah I imagine he’ll be raring to go in February.
