"In addition to having interest in Russell Branyan and Jermaine Dye, the Indians are also talking to Hank Blalock, reports Rosenthal. He adds that the Blue Jays are also in on Branyan."

hmmmm

having a lefty/lefty platoon at 1B doesn’t make a hole lot of sense and I’m not sure that Branyan would be willing to split time with Overbay…

I get the feeling that Rosenthal's position is that we are in on everybody

Which might be sort of true…Anthopoulos seems to keep an eye on everything, with the idea that if someone is going very cheap he could make an offer.

even if...

Branyan was really cheap there’s no real point to get him unless you can move Overbay? Neither can hit lefties, and DH is seemingly occupied (with another lefty) in Lind…

My assumption is that he’d platoon with Bautista and provide depth at 1B, 3B and DH.

well

we already have Joey Gathright and Jeremy Reed, so if we add Chavez we can complete the trifecta of lefty no-hit, all-glove outfielders

Why not Jermaine Dye

How much would he cost? I think that would solve the RF problem. 1 or 2 year deal at 5 mil/per? How much is he asking for?

his defense has really declined

I can’t imagine he’d be any better than Snider out in right, and probably significantly worse

He has said he is willing to play 1st though…. so theres that…

Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...

add him to the list of potential 1B players for the jays: Overbay, Ruiz, Lind, Dopirak, Wallace, Cooper

I would say that offering the Jays 1B is like offering a free tank of gas to a Saudi.

But

Wouldn’t he be a better option than Lind out there? Or Bautista? Lind Fulltime DH, Dye could start and Bautista could be a defensive replacement. Or Gathright if he makes the club.

Rhinos dig the long ball, and I think Dye could produce more offense than Bautista anyway.
