Fantasy baseball

So we have about a billion options for fantasy baseball now. Just judging how many people would be interested in starting our own leagues and such.

Yahoo just introduced an live auction type of draft which looks pretty cool and is a def a twist on regular fantasy.

We can also just go about the normal more traditional way. 5x5 Roto or points.

I know not everyone can join the same league, as having over 12 teams seriously kills the depth and the drafts take to long (specially the auction type).

Help me out with some feedback. Who's Interested or not, and maybe if you know a better fantasy site. I know ESPN and cbssports line have good fantasy options. I've ran leagues for the past 3 years on yahoo so I don't mind being a commish/admin for the league.

Im out Unfortunately.

I am in two fairly intensive leagues at the moment that require quite a bit of research and prep time.

Cecil better pan out this year, I’ve been forced to call him up from the minors onto my AL roster this year because of his service time last year.

Its not an Open league I am afraid.

There are 11 teams now (We contracted from 12 in the first year when someone left)

There are contracts and salary and a cap. Auction Draft Roto Style 5×5 with 5 minor league spots. Minor League is a straight draft 5 rounds with positions being derived from the previous year standings.

Can keep up to a certain number of players each year. Salary goes up 2 bucks each year and contracts are 4 years in length. After that they become a franchise player. You can keep one franchise player a year and each year their contract goes up 10 bucks.

Minor Leaguers can stay minor leaguers until you call them up (At which point they are 5 bucks) or if they reach a certain amount of innings or AB’s. If they reach the limit you are forced to call them up at the start of the following season at 5 bucks.

We are only going into our 3rd year. For those interested I placed 2nd in year 1, and dead last in year 2, but to be fair about a 1/3 of the way through the season I set out to tank because I knew I wasn’t going to win so I ended up trading expensive players for young players and rookies.

Sounds like fun, I was asking for a link to the website that hosts it. I want to find a league like this on the web.

or do you guys do it the old school way? meaning transactions and whatnot are done at a league meeting every week?

but the site costs about 150 160 a year….

Try this

http://www.minorleagueball.com/

Often people will advertise openings in their dynasty leagues on there. Especially this time of year.

It takes neither courage nor intelligence to cheer for a team only when that team wins. The true test of a fan's mettle is the same as it is for a player: Were you there when you were needed?

I'd be up for a pretty basic one

I usually play some of the open leagues on CBS or Sporting News, so I’d be in.

Yeah drafts dont start till next wednesday on yahoo. I can set the league up this weekend.

what works for the draft time and date? Im in school all day so I can draft between 9am and 2pm. mon to friday, but I work and play shows around my city at night time so It would be harder for be to do a draft at niht.

12 noon ok for everyone? and during the week ok like a Wednesday or Thursday?, or would a weekend be better?

I guess we will just do a normal 5×5 roto draft? seems to be the easiest thing to do for most people.

A weekend would be best I think

A weekday next week works better for me, but even then I can't guarantee I'd be live for it.

Might need to set up my picks list in advance and let the computer handle it just because of work and school commitments this week and next week.

(I work events and intramurals for my school and we are hosting virtually every playoff series possible for our varsity teams this weekend and nationals and regionals for many of them next week. Lots of hours and money, but going to be very tiring.)

Ok I set the league up

http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/fansofbbb

the password is: jays

if you register a team use the name you use on here.

The draft is set for this sunday the 28th at 2:00pm eastern. It will be a live draft but you can rank your picks before hand if you cant make the draft.

Let me know if this date works or not. If we cant get 11 more teams then the date will be changed till we fill the league.

The ID# is 305767

Since you need to use that with the pass to sign up.

Also, we don’t have to put our names in the team name if we use the same nick on Yahoo and here right? Well, I put my name in brackets anyway.

Ball.

Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.

I know this info comes too late....

but CBSSports has worked a deal with SBNation for half price premium leagues with them. If you want to use them it will be a couple of days to get all the details but the cost would be $90 instead of the usual $180.

Damn, nice deal. Is that only if the main bloggers set something up?

Actually I think we can run one for free.....

but the deal will be for everyone that goes in from a link on our page….I’ve not got all the information yet.

Yep,

I will have to look into it as well.
