Hmmm, wasn't really excited about this guy until I read this.

Looks like a keeper.

The three arm slots would be pretty cool to watch. Seems to have a few good secondary pitches and good fastball from the low and high slots. We don’t really have anyone blocking him unless you are going to count Stewart. Probably start at AA and make his way to AAA at some point. Not sure if he will see the show this year….but you never know.

His issue

The main thing holding him back from being a specialist is that he’s absolutely dominant against RHB but struggles against LHB, which is is normal for guys who throw from a lower arm slot. So far as a pro:
vs RHB; 205 BF, 60k, 18bb, 0.83whip
vs LHB: 172BF, 42k, 31bb, 1.69whip

And he showed the same problem in college. For that reason, I don’t see him as a guy you bring in in a specific inning so much as he is a guy you bring in to attack certain batters.

I dunno
vs RHB; 205 BF, 60k, 18bb, 0.83whip
vs LHB: 172BF, 42k, 31bb, 1.69whip

That’s every pitchers issue. Rightys tend to have lefty’s’ hit off them better and vice versa.

As a pro: Two year totals

69 Games
95 IP
1.89 ERA
22 Saves
30 R
20 ER
49 BB
105 K
1.15 WHIP

5.8 H/9
0.2 HR/9
4.6 BB/9
9.9 SO/9
2.14 SO/BB

Plus he’s only given up two HR in two years.

He seems to walk alot of batters but that’s something that will go down as he develops more. If you think he’s “just a guy” you might need to delve deeper into the stats.

I realize it’s every pitcher’s issue, but it’s more dramatic for pitchers from a low arm slot. Look at guys like Justin Masterson or Chad Bradford. There’s a difference between someone who is better vs one side or the other and someone like Farquhar who dominates one side and cannot seem to find the plate vs. the other.
And you cannot just say “his walks will go down as he develops”. And when did I say he was “just a guy” … who are you quoting there? Not me.

Ive been reading that we might even see him this year with the big club
Lets hope he pans out
