Yay Smiths

Hugo is in midseason form lately with his song titles.

Smiths are awesome

at my neighborhood pub they used to have Smiths v. Cure dance nights. Was actually pretty fun. Weird to hear dance music you actually like. I think the only other time that’s ever happened was my wedding, where of course I picked the music.

Did we improve at any position?

How many positions did we regress at?

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

did he have a reason?

just guessing, but

we were a 85 win team last year (Pythagorean, third order wins sort of thing) and we’re projected at about 70 this year. I guess technically that could mean bad offseason.

by ayjackson on Mar 31, 2010 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

well, right

no doubt we had a better team last season (though some of those moves were JPs). But that doesn’t really answer the question of what JP thinks Anthopolous did wrong that could’ve been done better.

After several years in a row of fairly dramatically underperforming our pythagorean record, it’ll be interesting to see what happens this season with such low expectations.

Any suggestion that this was a good offseason involves counting our chickens before they're hatched.

I think there was a saying about that.

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

by Torgen on Mar 31, 2010 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not saying

we can say it was a great offseason yet. I agree maybe we’ll never say that. I was just curious as to whether Ricciardi gave any specific bases or examples regarding things that he thinks Anthopolous has done wrong this offseason that could have been done better.

I mean, “worst offseason in baseball” doesn’t necessarily mean that Anthopolous has done anything wrong. Maybe it’s just circumstance and even making the best of a bad situation, the Jays had a really bad offseason. But if that’s the case, and the supposed worst offseason is because of circumstance, not because of things Anthopolous has screwed up, well, JP is at least partially responsible for the circumstance.

doesn`t the evaluation have to take into consideration the context of the

situation. If the jays weren`t rebuilding then sure this offseason would look poor, but since their goal is to rebuild and retool than this offseason I think was what they needed to do. they got picks for scutaro and rod and replaced them as close and cheaply as possible, and they got value for doc with very few suitors.

Successfully executing a bad plan doesn't make the plan less bad

They're not just hitting home runs. They're doing the little things, like hitting doubles.

by Torgen on Mar 31, 2010 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I`m not following, how do you know the moves toward rebuilding are

already bad? Tough to evaluate how drabek, dàrnoud, wallace and morrow will pan out yet don`t you think? Not too mention pretty early to tell if the extra picks in the draft will pan out when they haven `t been chosen yet

by ClintB on Mar 31, 2010 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions
