Fan Ethics: Player Loyalty vs. Team Loyalty

So I got my copy of the PS3 game MLB10 The Show and by chance decided to play a game as the Phils with Doc as the pitcher.  My goodness it made me feel depressed.  How do you miss someone so badly that you didn't even know personally?  Anyway, considering the level of the team playing behind him, it will be interesting to see what his win count will be now and perhaps for the rest of his career.  Plus I am quite happy to know that he will playing in front of a major (on contrast to Toronto) home team crowd.

There was a nice little comment post by one of you bluebird bantees a while back saying to a Phils fan:

"Just wait until you get to know Roy, you just don't realize how good he actually is"

One of my greatest regrets as a fan of Roy is that I never got to see him pitch live.  Heck, I've yet to see a live MLB game for that matter.  This summer it will change and one of the internal conflicting issues I am dealing with is perhaps getting a 'HALLADAY' Jersey of a team I DO NOT like at all.  It this in any way ethical?  How well do you suppose that would be received?  Sure I can get ahold of a Jays Halladay shirt but who am I kidding?

i got my copy of The Show 10 as well

how’re you liking the game so far?
It’s all good for me except that the computer keeps making stupid trades like Jon Lester and Daisuke for Vernon Wells

I’ve decided to mess around with a short season and fantasy draft. I guess the developers release an updated roster weekly. The thing that kills me is that for some reason there is no Brett Wallace or Drabek, etc. in the Jays current farm system. Uggggggg. So I hope they get their arses in gear. I think it will be best to wait a little bit into the REAL MLB season until I settle on a roster. See who actually makes the team. Hahahaha—- although it will likely be as BBB predicts. Too bad for Wallace. Good for Bautista!

On the bright side the first Jays game I player and first AB with Snider he hit a 2 R HR :D

There are a lot of improvements I find. And the audio is more or less a cc of previous years. Quite sad. AS for improvements though, it’s worth grabbing

Interesting

I’ve been burned by “Roster Update YearX” sports games enough that I avoid buying the new edition until my previous one is about 3 years old, but The Show is tempting me very hard.

And I would also just be patient for the fan-made/updated rosters once Spring cuts start happening and AA/AAA rosters start looking clearer. I tried a few of those and boy were they impressive.

How do Hill and Lind stand up in terms of hitting stats?

Hill and Lind

Actually, Hill and Lind have pretty decent stats in the game. Hill of course has even better fielding stats. Lind on the other hand is exactly what we’d expect. His power and contact vs. LHP and RHP is nice too. There is a marked improvement compared to his ‘yellow bar stats’ in last years game. I find this quite exciting to see because it gives me a nice little non numerical visualization of the statistics and how the players are growing or declining.

The way I look at it wrothh91, is break down the entertainment vaule of the game. I usually compare it to $10/hour. Where else can you get gripping entertainment for $10/h? So you buy a game, play it six hours and it more or less pays for itself :D PLay it for 10 and you got yourself a better deal. Heh, considering a 9 inning match is at least 45 mins I have a feeling there will be a lot more time involved than noted above

You won’t be disappointed.

I love the MLB the show series…. I started back in 06 and played something like 11 seasons with my road to the show pitcher, He was insane, Especially since in the first incarnation of the game your stats didn’t decline if you didn’t work on them, So not only was my pitcher full stats on everything but he was always a crazy hitter.
…. Yeah not so realistic on that point but they have got better.

Still the best baseball game going.

Oh, I know I wouldn’t be disappointed, but I’m more worried that there aren’t really enough changes being made to the game to make it “new”.

And I’m glad Lind and Hill are where we think they are, that’s good stuff. I think I remember bitching about the poor player stats the Jays had in the last few baseball games (The Show 09 and 2k8 or 9) that basically ignored the fact that the Jays had the best pitching in all of baseball for three straight years and had them about 25th worst for pitching, even with Doc.

I’ll probably get it as a prize to myself once I finish these correspondance courses. Need a carrot to reach for or I just won’t get moving on these essays.

The reason Wallace and Drabek are not in the game is because they are not part of the MLB players union.

A player doesn’t join the union until he plays his first game in the MLB.

And a player doesn’t get into the game until they are in the union unfortunately.

I had a feeling that was the case. Oh well. At least fans make the players although I think they have the stats far greater than they should be ;)

Real rosters

There are some guys over at operationsports.com that put some fantastic rosters together for this game.

They usually finish sometime after opening day, but these are worth waiting for. With the final version, they’ll have pitch edits and batting stances, etc. for every player in the game and they do a fantastic job with the minor leaguers too.

Guys like Knight and Ridin'

usually upload their rosters onto Roster Vault in the game.

Yes don’t give it a second thought, Roy moved on as of April 5 he is a opponent treat him as such. After of course a rousing standing ovation.

We cheer for the logo on the cap – not the player wearing it. So you give Halladay the rousing standing ovation when he comes to down – and hope he gets shelled in the first couple of innings – even if he wins every other game this season.

Halladay and MLB2K10

I wouldn’t buy a Phillies jersey just because it’s Halladay. I will be cheering for the Phillies this year (along side the Jays) because they have Halladay. But I would never buy a jersey for anyone but the Jays.

As for players not in our favorite console sports games (mine is the 2k sports on Xbox360) I have created my own versions of Wallace and Drabek and inserted them into the proper line-ups.

Maybe I will post the stats I gave them when I get home from work.

Had to crack a smile

I was playing a Jays game on MLB10 The Show with Marc Rzepczynski pitching and the commentary said:

“Starting for the Jays is a guy whose name you wouldn’t mind having as a triple score word”

So the nickname legacy has now reached video games. Congrats BBB!!!
