Quick Recap: Spring Game 2
Looks like the batters are ahead this spring. The game was on MLB Audio and I listened to parts of it.
Pitching:
- Scrabble started and showed well, 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 K, no runs. Nice job.
- Kyle Drabek pitched 2 innings. Had some trouble 3 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned, but struck out 3. Tiger commentators were impressed with his stuff.
- Newly renamed Ray Gonzalez (formerly Reidier) didn't show well but wasn't helped by his defense. 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned and a walk in his 2 innings. Jarrett Hoffpauir dropped a throw at 3rd ruining a nice play by Johnny Mac that cost Ray an out and Mike McCoy turned a DP ball into just a force out.
- Zach Jackson pitch 2 innings as well, gave up a solo home run but also had 4 strikeouts.
- Rommie Lewis got the save, pitching the 9th, giving up just a walk.
Batting:
- Mike McCoy was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run.
- Brad Emaus was 2 for 3 with a double and a run.
- Jeremy Reed 1 for 3, run and RBI.
- Brian Dopirak 2 for 3 with an RBI.
- Randy Ruiz 1 for 3, RBI.
- Brett Wallace 1 for 2, Run and RBI.
- J.P. Arencibia was 1 for 2 with a massive 3 run homer.
- Travis Snider was 1 for 2 with a hard hit single and a walk and a K against lefty Dontrelle Willis.
- Joey Gathright 1 for 2.
- Adam Loewen 1 for 1 and a walk, run.
- Chris Lubanski unfortunately was 0 for 3.
- Jose Molina 0 for 2 with a K.
I'm hoping that Arencibia's homer buys him more at bats this spring. I'm sure Buck will be an ok catcher but I'd like to see JP get a chance. Lubanski's 0 for doesn't help those of just that are hoping he shows well. But Snider's day doesn't hurt and Dopirak showed well in his first action this spring. He and Randy should have a great competition. Marc Rzepczynski helped his chances to make the rotation.

Nice
Nice to see Emaus go 2-3 im pulling for him to have a good spring
I like the homer from J.P, maybe it opens Cito’s eyes..
he wasn't too bad
for an infielder’s first shot at AA

Some encouraging signs...
Emaus, J.P., Travis against a lefty…RZed, Drabek, Zach Jackson…as long as the boys keep working hard, you never know how things will unfold in 2010. I think as long as Cito can help develop the young guys & figure out how best to pull strings & put the young guys in the best position to succeed, we’ll be ok. I would like to think there is enough talent on this roster to avoid losing 100 games, but a lot will have to go right on the mound to avoid that. Keep it up! Go Jays Go!
@Tom
JP had a massive 2 run homer and a sac fly…. Bet the 3 run shot you talked about will follow ;)

It's really a p*ss off...
Ever since the Jays crawled to the end of the 2009 season we – you and I and all us other bloggers and fellow travellers – have been Gods.
We’ve been able to speculate and propose, articulate and pontificate on all manner of Jays issues, AND we’ve been right on – namely because we were the only game in town – but sadly – that is all coming to an end. From now on the guys that actually get paid to play the game will be speaking with their arms, their legs, their bats and their guts. From now on – you and me – all we get to do is sit back watch them – and praise or gripe – as the mood carries us.
I liked it better when we were all correct – I liked it better when “they” couldn’t interfere with our speculations with their brilliant play and dazzling performances.
Man – is it the end of the season yet? (Just in case we’ve any linear thinkers in the crowd – the forgoing has been a feeble and not very effective attempt at humour).
Go Jays!
Fortunately
Living in my mom’s basement and never actually watching any games…..I still will consider myself always right and ignore any contrary information that I might come across.
what are these "games" of which you speak
you mean the computer simulated contests that determine the player’s stats and MLB standings?

Since Earth is really just a giant computer to determine the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything,
what isn’t computer-simulated?
"Look at me! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos!"
so
does that mean that the 2010 Jays are mostly harmless? that sounds about right…

Rzep and Romero — 2 of the 3 amigos look good for starting rotation — just need Cecil to do his stuff
JPPPPPPPP

Fun times
Spring training is almost as fun as the regular season to me. The battle of the bench. The starting 5, the bullpen, and watching the prospects. Good times!
So far, Dopirak, Arencibia, Ruiz and McCoy aren’t disappointing. Snider on the other hand…
Still early, and really the last 2-3 weeks are the most important for making an impression.
Mind expansion...
If I hear the mean-spirited Brian “Doper” Dopirak moniker once more, I ’m going to throw a hissy fit.
Some smart alecky Yankees’ fan said that the organist was going to play “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” as Doper strode from the on-deck circle to the batter’s box. What next? Maybe set up a bummer tent in right field?
This must be actionable. Hugo, are you available for $500/hour?
