New Award for Jays Pitchers

Doctastic

Someone used this to describe Romero's performance today and I got to agree, he was Doctastic.  Why not make that the official way we refer to any Blue Jay pitcher's performance when they throw a complete game. This is not to mourn the past or the loss of Roy Halladay, but rather to honor the pitcher who has become synonymous with the complete game for the current generation of baseball fans.

So what do you all think? Our Suckage awards have player names associated with them, why not have it for a positive award?

Heh Nice idea. Although we rarely ever name the suckage awards anymore.

We just call the suckage jays suckage.

should be handed out sparingly

otherwise it’s just not Doctastic. Today was definitely worthy. Maybe a Gamescore north of 80 should be the criteria.

yea, something like

CG, less hits than IPs, high # of Ks, and very few walks, and in a manageable pitch count. Otherwise, it won’t be Doctastic like you said.

Why wouldn't a CG be enough?

How often do you see a CG with the pitcher performing poorly?

by IanJ on May 15, 2010 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions

not performing poorly and pitching like Doc are different things. and I don’t think a CG is necessary. Cecil would have gotten one from me for his eight innings of one hit ball.

based on a gamescore of 80

RR would have 2 Doctastic starts and Cecil would have 1. (RR had an 88 today; Cecil’s no hit bid was an 84; RR’s no hit bid was an 82)

Marcum had a 78 against the Sox on Wednesday night for the next best outing of the year.

I'd say a 78 against the Yankees or Sox qualifies as Doctastic

i agree

that would be one of those subjective bump-ups….its was more Doctastic because he came out and shut them down after a bullpen game the day before.

I also thought Romero channeled his inner-Doc this afternoon

I’m for it.

After seeing the line from Lincecum's latest outing

I agree, there are times a pitcher might go 8 or 9 inning and yet not be “Doctastic”. Walking 5 Astros shouldn’t net you the award.

I also agree a Game Score of 78+ for the Hated Sox/Yankees

Gamescore?

Good. Another stat.

Good idea

But if a Jay SP loses a no-hit bid late in a game, say, tomorrow, I’d suggest that he gets the Stieby award instead.

You beat me to it

I was thinking of proposing the exact same thing, when I read Doctastic in the article I thought that was perfect for any Jays pitcher that pitched a complete game.

Well we tried the no offense huddle, why not give the no huddle offense a go?!!
