Jeroloman’s walk rate is insane. But then again, so is his strikeout rate. He seems pretty unique and I do wonder if it’s something he can do at a higher level.
Hechavarria is in an awful slump, but he hasn’t hit well since he came here.
Tolisano is looking good, Bowman even better, and Emaus seems to bat well enough to displace Encarnacion at 3B given how he’s probably the far, far superior batter.
Jeroloman
Is a patient hitter. If they throw out of the zone he won’t chase. On the downside sometimes he won’t swing at borderline pitches. A lot of his strikeouts are looking and not swinging. Last night he walked 4 times and 3 of those were on full counts, the other on a 3-1 count. He fouled two full count pitches off last night as well.

Shawn Bowman's home run
Went about 400 feet down the left field line, over the restaraunt/bar. It was pretty impressive. He is on a nice hot streak.
He is also one of the most clutch batters I’ve seen. When the game is on the line he is the one Id want up.

Just because it hasnt been proven
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. There is definately something called thriving under pressure. Some people can and some people flounder when under pressure.
It doesn’t mean that they’ll be 100% however. Look at Mariano Rivera.
And you could say small sample size, but he has been with the team for about 5 weeks now and has 2 walkoff doubles, 3 game winning home runs in the teams last at bat, and a few game winning singles. That’s impressive.

Mariano Rivera is the best reliever of all time
so it only makes sense he’d be the best in “clutch” situations

I'm not going to grumble they they didn't send it to me....no no....
Oh….Great looking team. Steve McQuail is also on the team from this draft. Also Carlos Perez and Gustavo Pierre from our top 30 prospect list. Add in Lance Durham, Markus Brisker, Egan Bell and Zach Outman and of course, our recent interviewee Randy Schwartz make it an interesting team.
???
Where the hell is Marisnick? He’s still not ready, even for short-season low-A ball? Man this kid is going to take forever. Glad to see Gustavo Pierre—he’s going to pass by Hechavarria real quick (who looks like a bust waiting to happen, by the way).
Man, we just can’t develop SS or C at all!!! (Arencibia has 10PBs this year, so he’s destined for DH/1B/AAAA player)

he's never swung at a pitch in a pro game before
why wouldn’t he start at the GCL?
Hmmmm you are calling someone a bust on 50 or so at bats?
When all the folks that have seen him play are raving about him? I know we live in a do it now world but you think maybe we could use a bit of sense on these things.
I'm kind of glad Hech is stuggling a bit
Because it happens to all players eventually, and I’d rather see it happen sooner than later. If it doesn’t break him, he’ll emerge as a much better player.
The kid is dealing with a lot of differences so it’s not surprising he’s struggling. There are some positives emerging from his struggles. From what I’ve read, he’s still playing good defense, so he’s not letting his batting problems affect his fielding. He’s also started to draw some walks, which is also a sign of him settling down and adjusting.
Another positive in this is that the Jays seem to have correctly identified his current level of ability. He is challenged by this level but not overwhelmed by it.

Of course, anyone who was thinking we had signed the next A-Rod will be severely disappointed.
You’re probably better off thinking we signed the next Tony Fernandez.
Where the hell's Michael Crouse?
He’s an intriguing guy; I would’ve thought they would’ve bumped him up after two seasons in the Gulf Coast.
Fernandez
Ah, absurd positivity, the mark of a naive Blue Jays fan.
Tony hit .306 in his first season in the minors . . . and he was 19 . . . and he spent time that year at AAA!!!!!!! His second year he hit .302 with a .741OPS at AAA. Let’s not be stupid, by any stretch Hech is nothing compared to Tony.
We’re paying this punk $10 million for four years and he can’t hit or walk or hit for power. Okay he can field, great. I’m not writing him off entirely, but I’ve seen what’s happened to all our other SS prospects: Adams, Hill, Jackson etc.
I don't know how you would guess he can't hit.
if you choice is to decide after 50 at bats someone is no good, then there has never been a good player in the history of baseball.
Development has changed so much in the years since then
Competition has changed so much since then and scouting has also changed. He might be struggling off the gates, but that doesn’t mean as much today as it did 30 years ago.
Not all stars in the making just jump out and start smashing baseballs at the first chance they get. Even Loewen had a horrible year in Dunedin last year and is now tearing apart AA.
Loewen didn't have a horrible year by any stretch of the imagination
considering it was his first ever taste of professional ball as a hitter and he spent the whole season at advanced A, it was actually very encouraging. He took a bit of time to adjust but had himself a very nice second half, which set him up nicely for his big season this year.

Fernandez
Ah, absurd positivity, the mark of a naive Blue Jays fan.
I didn’t say he was the next Tony Fernandez. I said you would be better off thinking of him in terms of what type of player he would be than someone like A-Rod. True, he could be the next Manny Lee, but I like to think that the Jay’s brain trust spent $10 million dollars on a guy they think will be more than Lee.
why do I have to be positive when this franchise has sucked for 17 years? Screw positivity, I want wins and prospects who are useful.
wahhhhhhhh!
{sucks thumb}

And I don't want them to develop
I want them to enter the organization as a complete major leaguer. We don’t want players that have to grow into their jobs. That was the problem with that Delgado jerk, didn’t hit a thing when he first made the Jays. Players should be as good as they are going to be right from that first minor league at bat.
And when they get to the majors, I don’t want any of these slumps. What’s the deal with that Bautista guy, if he hit 12 home runs in May he should hit 12 every month.
why do I have to be positive when this franchise has sucked for 17 years?
You don’t, but recognize that the Jays have not sucked for 17 years. Mediocre, uninspiring at times, occasionally bad, sometimes decent all apply, but for suckiness, I give you the Royals or the Pirates. Now those teams have sucked for 17+ years.
