Jays young starters are a story of it's own
When Roy Halladay was dealt to the Phillies last year, it was very difficult to project how the young and inexperienced pitchers in our starting rotation were going to reply coming to the 2010.
But Romero, Marcum, Cecil and Brendan Morrow have been nothing short of outstanding. The result, the team has performed above expectations and more importantly given hope to baseball fans in this city again, that there is a huge "bright light" waiting at the end of the tunnel after all.
Since being called from Las Vegas, David Purcey has seen very limited game action, but he has showed some potential to be affective coming out of the bullpen and there's a probable chance of the team giving him the opportunity to be a closer before the end of the season or next year.
Of course we shouldn't forget top prospect Kyle Drabek , who without question will be a part of this young rotation most likely next year, Mark Rzepckinski and even Dustin McGowan who had successive shoulder surgery recently, might return next year if rehabilitation goes well
I'm sick and tired hearing about how Tampa Bay has one of the best young rotations in baseball. Well! move over Rays, because there a team of new sheriffs in town and they are wearing a blue Jay uniform.

I think you might have a point…..Tampa’s rotation (aside from Niemann and Price) has gone badly south since the start of the year. While ours has gotten stronger. Marcum and Romero have been fairly solid all season. Morrow has turned into an ace. Cecil has shown stretches of brilliant play but has has 3-4 real poor starts. But he’s only 23 so he looks to be very good. We have the best 1-4 in the big leagues for sure.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Looking at next year since 1967
It's a pretty good surprise
I like this staff. What’s not to like?
Marcum – young Greg Maddux (bulldog) type with a nastier change ace 1A
Morrow – best stuff on the staff, but now learning to ptich (and how!)
Cecil – plus fastball (for a lefty) with an excellent change – Jimmy Key with a better fastball?
Romero – ace 1B with plus fastball nasty change and improving control
Litsch – going to be frustrating till he full comes back from TJ surgery, but when on gets grounders
All 28 or younger.
Plenty of Ks, but more importantly they get ground balls (when on.)
Only drawback right now is that Morrow and Cecil will probably have to be shut down near the end of the year to prevent injury (aka the Verducci effect.) I don’t know about Romero and Marcum, but might be a concern as well.
In honor of the Jays 2nd Baseman who played with fire in more ways than one.

30% increase in innings I believe is a guideline used by many teams
that puts Romero in line for 230 innings pitched if all goes well.
Not %
+30 IP
Who thinks that Cito will actually even consider that?
"Don't tell me it's impossible. Be honest and tell me you can't do it. Tell me you don't know how."
Pending their position
Cito Gaston has made it clear later in the season he plans to shut down the number of innings for the young starters currently on the rotation. But that philosophy could change, especially if the Jays are 3-4 games back of a wild card spot..
