When I Was a Boy I Was Counfounded By You: 7/9 Minor League Recap
Las Vegas beat Salt Lake 9-8 for its second consecutive win by that margin:
- Brett Wallace DHed and was 2-4 with two singles and a walk
- J.P. Arencibia was 1-4 with yet another home run, his 23rd of the season.
- Josh Roenicke got the win despite giving up 4 runs in an inning and a third.
- Jesse Carlson pitched well in relief (1 1/3 innings, 1 K, 1 hit, no walks or runs)
New Hampshire put the hurt on Binghampton, 10-2:
- Kyle Drabek got the win with an excellent outing - 6 scoreless innings, 5 hits (3 were doubles so he was pretty fortunate not giving up any runs but still), with 5 Ks and 1 walk. When guys were making contact against Kyle, it was on the ground - he had 9 groundouts and just 3 outs in the air. 3.03 ERA for Kyle now, with 46 walks and 85 Ks over 113 innings.
- Trystan Magnuson pitched a scoreless 9th. 1 K, 1 hit, no walks. 40/7 K/BB ratio over 47 innings.
- Darrin Mastroianni was 2-5 with a walk. He also stole his 32nd base of the season. .305/.406/.399
- David Cooper was 2-5 with a double. .235/.295/.439 with 34 extra-base hits. 1.170 OPS over his last 10 games.
- Shawn Bowman was 2-4 with a 3 run home run, his 16th of the season.
- Brian Jeroloman was 2-5 with his 7th homer of the season. .278/.446/.455.
- Eric Thames was 1-3 with a triple and 2 walks. He really seems to have a nice eye at the plate. .279/.359/.480.
- Travis Snider was 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. He did have an RBI.
Dunedin lost 7-6 to Brevard County:
- Travis d'Arnaud was 2-6 with a double. .282/.329/.441.
- Mark Sobolewski was 2-5 with a couple of RBI.
- B^3 friend Brad McElroy was 3-4 with a walk.
- Justin McClanahan was 2-5 with a home run. .255/.322/.396.
- Chad Jenkins had a not-great start, getting through 5 innings while giving up 4 runs. He did strike out 3 and walk just 1 and he was getting plenty of grounders (8 GO/3 AO) so maybe just bad luck/bad defense. Jenkins has a 6.04 ERA in four starts since his promotion.
Lansing shut out Great Lakes 6-0:
- Egan Smith had a great start, going 6 scoreless innings with a walk and 5 Ks.
- Kenneth Wilson was 1-4 with two walks. .233/.355/.287.

LV keeps putting infielders in the outfield
They need to Wise down as soon as the Jays Snider up.
WALLACE AND ARENCIBIA!!!!!!
How long do we have to watch Overbay suck and Molina DH before we bring up some young guys-Snider, Brett and JP should all be playing by the end of July: send down Wise and Green and trade Buck (or dump Molina).
Jesus, we are a god-awful team (I was there last night), can’t we started the fucking rebuilding already? AA, can you hear me?? Hello?

We are rebuilding. Look at all the picks we had in the recent draft. Look at the international free agent signings we have done. Look at the FA contracts. You still have to field a team at every level and it doesn’t help prospects to be in the majors if they aren’t ready. Sure Wallace and Arencibia may be ready, but on the other hand Wallace just got back from a wrist injury and despite you dumping on Molina, the tandem of Buck and Molina have worked great behind the plate. Look at how well Morrow turned things around when Molina was behind the plate. They brought in these guys on one and two year deals to holdover for a year or so until the prospects are fully ready. It’s what they should be doing. KC rushed a star prospect in Alex Gordon and looked what happened.
For every Strasburg or Longoria that can cut it in the bigs at a younger age there are 10 prospects that need the time to put together a solid foundation.

Agreed
Just like there’s no reason to trade or dump guys unless the return is worth it, there’s no reason to rush prospects into the meat grinder because they’re having a good first half. If you can move Buck for quality, then you bring up Arenciba. If not, you give him another half year in minor league ball to see a lot more pitches and gain some confidence. If you can get a good deal for Overbay, Wallace looks ready for the Show. But if not, Wallace spending a full year in the minors isn’t a negative thing. Same applies for Drebak, Roenicke, Collins, et al.
The Jays right now have depth, youth and trade flexibility. There’s absolutely no need to rush anything at this point. We know that contention this year is extremely unlikely, and we know that we’ve got weeks before the trade deadline. Let’s let other clubs get themselves into the position of having to overpay to stay in the hunt, and then make the best deals possible.
that's a language yellow card
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
Egan Smith looks like someone to keep an eye on eh?
I also think the Jays need to find a way to get Arencibia up there. It’s his 3rd season in AAA. If we keep saying that Snider has nothing left to prove in AAA, then why not say the same for Mr. Cibia.
I don’t necessarily disagree, but this was the first year Arencibia has really put it together at this level, last year was a bad year for him and dropped him on most prospect lists and what not . So it made sense to bring in FA catchers on short term deals to hold over.
And now that they are here Molina and Buck have done well. Buck is an all-star and who would have guessed that. And Molina has worked wonders with the pitching staff.
I imagine what the Jays are trying to do is sell high on Buck and keep Molina to help back up Arencibia, Heck we still have Chavez down in the minors as well so we couild technically move both of them although I imagine with the way he has worked with Morrow they want to keep Molina around for the next little bit.

There's no real rush on either Arencibia or Wallace
Overbay has been hitting great of late and Buck is an All-Star, I’d love to see either one but it is nice to see the team has a little more patience than the fans,
On a separate note, let’s stay away from swearing, there is no reason for it. Swearing doesn’t make the point any better.
What?
Overbay hitting “great” lately? You must not watch too much baseball outside of the Jays. He’s a 1B, and his numbers across the board are putrid. When did being “hot” constitute being slightly below average after two months of being the worst slugging 1B ever?
Jeez, Jays fans are so gullible. Who cares is Buck is playing well right now? Will he be here in 2 years? 4 years? Hell no, so dump him as soon as possible.
that's why he said "lately" not the whole year. Also I'm not quite following you, you would rather
the Jays dump Buck (allstar catcher) and Overbay for nothing rather than look for a decect return? Sure glad you’re not making the decisions.
Maybe you should watch some baseball here
Overbay is hitting .382/.432/.706 so far this month…if that isn’t hitting good, then you have pretty strange standards.
