Minor League Recap: July 21
All the Jay minor league games are done except for the Vegas game so we'll add that one later. Just take it for granted that Arencibia hit 3 HR.
New Hampshire lost 5-1 to Portland
- Jo Jo Reyes got his second start for the Fisher Cats. It didn't go quite as well as the first. 6 innings, 6 hits, 4 earned, 2 walks, 4 k. 1-1, 2.57.
- Daniel Farquhar: 2 innings, 1 walk. 4.31.
- Adeiny Hechavarria: 1 for 4. .269.
- Travis Snider: 1 for 4, HR. .298. His third HR in 4 games. I'm still not seeing the point in optioning here.

JoJo's Performance
I’d like to point out that although it may look pretty bad, JoJo’s performance was still a 5/5 on the PQS scale for what it’s worth.
IMHO it's time
to throw “conventional wisdom” out the window. Get the fans now to “buy in” to the future.

Rosters expand in the future. You can’t just start calling up Rookies whenever you want.
And with service time you can’t send all of these guys to the minors without their permission or clearing waivers which most certainly would not happen in most cases.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
How about a compromise
so that the fans get a sense of momentum?

The point of getting Snider in AA
He’s the mole/scout for AA to learn about Cooper and Hech. to see if they are worthy of becoming his teammates a few years down the road.
snider
the only reason he is not playing in MLB right now is to allow Bautista AB’s so he can get traded…. Having snider in the minors tells me Bautista is on his way out. I heard alot of people saying have snider in RF and Bautista at 3B but if this was in the Jays plans then I would think snider would be up by now as he has nothing to prove in the minors. I like the idea of trading Bautista if we get a good return for him
See, and I think differently
I think the reason they left Snider down there was to work out some of the rust off of his swing. The last thing they want him to go through is another month of struggling at the MLB level while he tries to figure out his swing.
I don’t think Bautista is on the way out. Sure, I trade him if I get a good offer, but right now I’m inclined to keep riding the wave. At what point do we stop wondering about his power?
I could see this.
It’s smart.
Hope that Bautista keeps getting looks from other clubs b/c he is undoubtedly at peak value.

snider
snider could shake off the rust at the MLB level…. Jays are not going to make the playoffs this year so 1-2 weeks of struggling is not a big deal…. it could actually help his confidence as if he struggles then he could blame it on his timing…. I dont think confidence is an issue though as he has proven he can succed at this level. It is wise to trade a player in his breakout year and at 29 he is not a core player. I think his power will be down next year (maybe 15-20 HR if he gets everyday ABs) after the league adjusts and starts throwing more breaking balls…. I am not saying to give him away but for a player who can play +defence and leading the league in HR I would have to think for him to draw interest…. I think why snider is in minors is AA has something brewing but we will see
My thoughts on Snider
Trade for E5? Bautista isn’t a really defensively capable third baseman, but we haven’t had one since Rolen. They have E5 in the lineup now, and they’re praying that he gets hot, or at least warm enough to get a decent deal for him. AA has his hands tied by the talent in the outfield at this point, I think. Bautista’s leading in homers, Wells is having a great year, and Lewis is the only real half-decent leadoff guy we have (granted, Excobar hasn’t hit there, so I don’t know how he’d do). Lind is still DH, and he’s slowly cranking it up again, so now is not the time to remove him. The only thing I see that really makes sense is a trade for one of Bautista or E5. I’m not a doubter of JoBau’s power anymore, though I find it difficult to believe that he can duplicate it. E5 has gotten as far as he’ll get in my estimation. Leaving Snider in the minors for the rest of the year is a horrendous mistake, so something’s gotta give here.
I'm thinking that when the Leafs win the Cup, I'll lose my drinking problem.

snider
snider won’t be down in minors for rest of year…. he will be recalled either after Bautista is traded or after the deadline….I don’t think EE gets traded as nobody would want him… I think one of 2 things happen…. 1) Bautista get traded and snider takes RF or 2) Bautista doesn’t get traded and moved to 3rd with snider going to RF and EE gets sent to minors or released
