I Will Float Until I Learn to Swim: 7/3 Minor League Recap

Las Vegas dropped an 11-9 contest to Reno:

Zach Jackson got the start and well, things really didn't go well (6 runs on 9 hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings)

Jeremy Accardo pitched a flawless inning, striking out 1 and was about all that went right from mound.  2.71 ERA in 22 23/ innings over 21 appearances.  12 Ks and 8 walks.

Mike McCoy was 4-6 with a double.  He also stole a base and made an error.  .352/.410/.611

J.P. Arencibia was 2-5 with a homer, his 20th on the season.  .315/.361/.637

Not to be outdone, Chris Lubanski also homered.  He was 1-4 on the day with a walk and had an assist from the outfield.  .305/.360/.598 with 14 dingers, 6 triples, and 21 doubles.

Brad Emaus also went deep.  He was 2-3 with two walks and is now hitting .323/.417/.525 since his promotion to Vegas.

Brian Dopirak (1-5), Manny Mayorson (3-5 with an error) and Aaron Matthews (2-4) had doubles.

Star-divide

New Hampshire thumped New Britain 15-7.

Danny Farquhar got the win with three solid innings.  The only hit and run he gave up was on a solo home run.  He struck out 3 and walked one.  39/30 K/BB over 38 innings now, 5.45 ERA.

Alan Farina closed out the game with a perfect inning.  He has yet to give up an earned run since his promotion.

Darrin Mastroianni did a great job setting the table, going 1-3 with 2 walks and scoring 4 runs.

Adeinys Hechavarria also scored 4 runs, but in a much less impressive fashion - he was 1-5.

Eric Thames (3-4 with a home run, a walk, and 6 RBI) hit one out for his second consecutive game.  .286/.352/.492 with 14 dingers now.

Shawn Bowman hit a 3-run home run of his own, his 13th on the season. He also made an error at third.

Adam Loewen was 2-3 with two walks.

David Cooper was 1-5 with a two-run single.

Dunedin was rained out.

Lansing beat South Bend 4-2:

Justin Jackson played left field and was 1-5 (.200/.286/.200 at Lansing).

Kevin Nolan (.288/.372/.381) had a couple of hits.

Ryan Goins was 1-4 and has been getting the bulk of the time at shortstop.

Yan Gomes was 1-4 with a double, but struck out in his other three at-bats.

Balbino Fuenmayor doubled and walked.  .235/.282/.372.

Chris Hopkins was 3-4 with a double.  .282/.380/.330.

Matt Fields got the start and was solid, allowing just 2 unearned runs, striking out four and walking no one.  3.44 ERA over 7 starts with a 27/4 K/BB ratio

Auburn shut out Batavia 4-0:

Stephen McQuail was 2-4 with a home run.  The pride of Wantaugh, NY is now hitting .200/.333/.320 in nine games.

Marcus Knecht was 0-2 but had a couple of walks.

Yeico Aponte (1-3 with a double and a walk) and Marcus Brisker (2-4 with a 2-run home run) supplied most of the rest of the offense.

Casey Lawrence got the start and was very good for the first 5 2/3 innings, striking out 4 and walking 1.  Nice numbers (0.55 ERA, 14/3 K/BB in 16 1/3 innings)  so far this young season, but he's only made two starts and had a couple of relief appearances.

The GCL Jays dropped a rain shortened game 7-4

Travis Snider was 1-3 as his rehab continues.

Jake Marsinick was 0-3 with three strikeouts.  Gonna be days like that. .295/.385/.523

Catcher Pierce Rankin was 2-3 with a couple of doubles.  .300/.417/.467.

Gari Pena went deep for the second time in the past three games.  .244/.256/.439 for the young Dominican shortstop.

Daniel Arcila also hit a home run in the young Venezuelan second baseman's first ever professional baseball game.  He turns 20 today so happy birthday!

Today's title from "King of Carrot Flowers Pts 2 and 3" by the short-lived but much-beloved Neutral Milk Hotel.

Jackson played left field?
Why is this organization playing our SS in the outfield!

basically

because no one else wanted Las Vegas, so the Jays got stuck with it after they lost out on the upstate NY cities that are close to Toronto.

Syracuse was really nice, but once the contract was up with them they wanted a new major league affiliate.

Syracuse was really nice

perhaps the first time those four words ever found their way into a sentence in that order

decent article on Hechavarria and his early struggles by Elliot in the Sun today

also of interest Roesenthal has a video up at fox sports saying expect the Jays to be big sellers, he still states if Marcum comes back healthy before the deadline the Jays will be exploring offers for him, also Frasor and Downs. He said teams are interested in Agonz and Bautista, but the Jays want alot for them as they have another year of control.

Lineups for July 4th

McDonald for the second day in a row. Luckily not in Left Field. Wise taking over for Wells in CF and batting 2nd behind Lewis… Please let me be wrong, but I see another frustrating lack of offense for Morrow coming our way. Especially with the way Hughes has been pitching this year. GO JAYS GO!

OMG, this, IMO, is the the absolute worst lineup I have seen in years.

Just awful. I actually laughed.

But heck, watch them win and score 7 runs or something.

That was my thought as well. Doesn’t that always seem like the way? Lineup looks god awful but someone hits it around
