Jays Sign Adonis Cardona
Jays have signed Adonis Cardona to a $2.8 million contract.
Cardona is Venezuelan RHP. He is 6'4" at 16 years old and thought to be the best Venezuelan talent in this year's free agent class. Apparently he already throws 94 mph and you'd have to figure that as he matures he'll throw upper 90's.
Great job by Alex Anthopoulos and company.

Tall kid, high leg kick with a big overhand delivery. I like his mechanics; he’s fluid and while he comes hard (like, really hard) at the plate, it all looks smooth. One Youtube clip had him throwing either a nice power curve or a wickedly breaking slider. Either one would well compliment a high 90s heater, and no doubt, the Jays org will have him developing a change-up if he doesn’t already have one.
This is what I like about this new administration.
Take 10 flyers on guys like this, and who knows, maybe 2 of them works out. Better then not trying at all.
Its like what my Grandma used to tell me “If you go to the bar, ask 10 girls to sleep with you. You’ll get slapped 9 times, but you’ll get some that night”

She's a very progressive Granny
Ok not, but it seemed like a funny thing for a Grandma to say.

It isn't?
What would you consider a flyer?
12 year old?

12 year-olds at a bar?
your grandma’s a sicko….or I’m confused by this thread. : )
great signing
too bad we won’t see him in the majors for at least 6 years
Wow, he is young
This is kind of crazy talking, but I bet most of our lives will be different by the time he pitches in the MLB. A lot can happen in about 6 years.
Woah, 2.8 Mills on a 16 yr old kid, I don’t know how this money works, is it 2.8 Mills to secure him to be a jays? or does he actually get part/all of this money? If so, would it be 2.8 Mills over the next ten years or similar?
I have no idea whether this will turn out to be a great signing or not – what it is though, regardless, is showing that this franchise is trying to move in the right direction.

I hope the contract
is for at least 10 years. He won’t be big league ready for at least 6 or 7.
Felix Hernandez saw action at age 19
It all depends on how the kid develops but I don’t think his age means he’s guaranteed an eternity in the minors
true
but the Jays’ current organizational philosophy is very different from what Seattle’s was at the time (promote, promote, promote)
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
He is 16
Assume he debuts at 21 which is still very young nowadays in general and very young with the jays philosophy. You want at least 4 years of a guy before he is a free agent and can leave. That means hopefully at least 9 years.
The last thing you want is to pay him a lot of money and spend time developing him and after just 2 years in the bigs he takes off for another team.
