When Will The Jays be in the postseason again?

Hi, This is my 3rd all time post.

Ill get right to it,

When will the Jays be in the Postseason again? next year? in 5 years? WHEN!!!!!

I'd like to hear what you have to say about this and what you think about my prediction

Tell me if i failed at my thoughts on when they will return or if i was accurate.

or comment on what im missing .

Star-divide

So my prediciton will suprise many people, I believe they will come very very close next year, and win the wild card in 2012

The reason is that if you look at the core players currently we have talented players.

Position Players

1. Travis Snider: Can Hit monster shots to any part of the field, and the upside?? he is currently on 22 years old! he very fine defensively and i can definetely see him hitting for a 2009 Lind year, 300 average, 30 Hrs and 100 rbi's

2. Adam Lind : Closing in on this prime, has an awesome understanding on what he can hit and what he cant, has powers to the gaps and to the opposite field. I can see him having years that come close to his 2009 year.

3. Aaron Hill: Probably hit a wall this current season but is great at fielding and has some power to the pull side and has tremondous effort.

4. Jose Bautisa???? : Ill leave this one until next year Travie D'arnaud

5. Yunel Escobar: has power to pull side, good eye, HUGE throwing arm. huge upside

honarable mentions to JPA, Gose and

Pitchers

1. Kyle Drabek: I havent heard much of him except for the occasional minor league reports; however he threw a no-hitter in AA!!!!

2. BMO: who watched his 1 hitter? jesus he struck out fricken everyone, bright bright future

3. Ricky Romero: I dont think the Jays will dish out all that money for a nobody (Vernon Wells). has filthy pitches

4. Brett Cecil: Can win games against the best (our division)

honarable mentions to Shaun Marcum, Zach Stewart and Chad Jenkings

So yea thats why i think we will get to the playoffs in 2012, your thoughts?]

of course i left out injuries and trades, because those are almost unpredictable

great

now it looks just about right
except i dont see gose in the majors by 2012, maybe september call up but idk
and i don’t think Drabek will be very good (near 3 ERA) until he spends couple more years in Majors

I think if he makes the team next year then his 2012 could look like Ricky's rookie season.

I think Ricky was farther along in his rookie season than Drabek will be but in Kyle’s second season he could put up numbers similar to Romero’s first. Also keep in mind that’d be as the 5th starter behind (listed alphabetically): Cecil, Marcum, Morrow, Romero.

You're rather optomistic on the Snider/Lind front.

Wells will continue to decline, 3B is a big ??? for us right now, and i think the bullpen will be too next year.
I think we will have a good team next year for sure, but i think we are 2 or 3 years away from contending seriously.

i'd say 2013 is about the time we have a realistic shot at the playoffs

we might have a chance in 2011 or 2012, but we’ll have to be real lucky.
2013 is about the time all the A prospects will (or won’t) reach full potential and also have good veterans

It's gonna depend on the "others"

The Jays will have the pieces to be the perrenial 90-95 win team over the next 3-5 years. In that span, they will likely play meaningful games in September every season, and make the playoffs at least twice.

However, no matter how well they do, it is gonna depend on the rest of the AL East. Because, no matter what you do, those other teams will be right there with you.

As it is, I truly feel that this is Tampa’s last shot. Next year Pena and Crawford are gonna be gone, and after that, their pitching core will start to reach free agency. Tampa has such bad attendance, even as the best team in the league, that they will never have the funds to pay for those pieces that are not home grown. At least, if the Jays are in the playoff hunt, we know Rogers will open up the wallet.

That still leaves the 2 headed beast. New York and Boston. While I believe the core of these two teams are getting older, and more injury prone, it will not take long for them to reload on talent. The only season’s that the Jays will have a chance is when they put together 95 wins, and one of Boston or New York gets devestated by injuries.

The Jays will be the new Tampa Rays. Great team, can be nose to nose with anyone in the league. However, it’l take one of those teams to be gutted by injury (this season Boston, 2008 New York) for them to sniff the playoffs.

I'm looking towards 2013 myself, but I think everyone's got their own idea

Personally I’m liking 2013, Escobar will be in his final year before free agency, Ditto for Morrow, Marcum will be gone unless they re-sign him, but Drabek will be in his second or possibly third season (if he makes the 2011 Jays), Arencibia will be in his 3rd full season, Cecil, Morrow, Romero will all be more developed than currently which quite frankly is a scary thought, Lind and Hill will hopefully have come back to their usual self (not necessarily their 2009 selves just definitely not their 2010 selves), Snider will be entering his prime and Hechavarria will be in his second season.

Bit of a revision

Anything is possible, we look at the team that started this year and thought 500 was really optimistic and we’re in August now and surpassing that. So I’m thinking that with these top 4 starters keeping games competitive, anything is possible. But, I guess 2013 will be when it will be most possible. Frankly, I’ll be a bit disappointed if we aren’t in the playoffs in 2013.

Love the optimism, but...
2. Adam Lind : Closing in on this prime, has an awesome understanding on what he can hit and what he cant

I disagree with this comment – Lind has swung at 35% of pitches outside of the strike zone this year, which is up 10% from last year and about 6% higher than the league average. It seems to me that Lind is having a hard time with pitch recognition and often when he decides to swing (even when it’s in the zone), he’s late on pitches – last night when Wells was on third is a good example of this. This has driven up his swinging strikes to 10.8% (3.5% higher than last year and 2% higher than league average).

If anything, Lind has shown this year that he can’t decide what to hit and what not to hit. Why this is so different from last year, I have no idea. I suspect that teams are pitching him differently (more cutters for example, which he seems to have a hard time hitting – even in the past).

Anyway, I’m not saying that he can’t rebound, but I’m not convinced that he can be a clean-up or number 5 hitter on a playoff team, and if he doesn’t improve dramatically, his value is severely diminished because he provides nothing defensively.

On that note, I could see Playoffs!!!!1 happening in 2012 if everything comes together.

by masterkembo on Aug 26, 2010 8:42 AM EDT reply actions

we'll see next year

Lind will have to adjust to pitchers now and if he does than playoffs might occur soon and if not then he sucks

by Andr K on Aug 26, 2010 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

I think for this team to be a contender for the playoffs

They are going to need Lind and probably Hill as well to get back to their top performance level. The young talent is there in all aspects, but they will need those guys to be veteran talented players. Lind especially will need to find a way to become a dangerous hitter in the middle of the lineup that people don’t want to pitch to, thus giving everyone around him lots to hit.
That being said, with good management over the next couple of years, and reliance on youth, they can save some cash and maybe when they are ready to contend, find someone on the open market to play DH who will be an absolute force, ie an Adam Dunn type player.

All this buttoning and unbuttoning
