Great column on Jose Molina
This Bob Elliott column on Jose Molina is a great read. More and more I think he'd be a great asset for us next year to continue mentoring the young pitchers and JP Arencibia.
Sounds like he's playing a quiet but valuable role this year, and is enjoying it:
Molina has appeared in 46 games -- 42 starts -- in the Jays first 125 contests. As a back-up, he has full-time influence. He spends the final half of the game in the bullpen answering relievers questions on how to approach hitters and attends pitchers meetings.
"This team allowed me to show my knowledge. I'm having fun," the 35-year-old Molina said. "We're not on top like the Angels and Yankees were, but maybe in two or three years, you'll see these pitchers in the World Series."
As an aside, here's a funny quote from Cito about a different take on catchers coming to the mound:
"Tim McCarver used to go to Bob Gibson," recalled Jays manager Cito Gaston, "Gibson would tell him, 'Go back where you belong, you don't know anything about pitching except that it's tough to hit.'

Yeah, Molina’s been real solid this year. Didn’t think I’d find myself wanting the Jays to use the team option on him for next season at the beginning of the year but here we are. Curiously, I looked at the reverse-enginnered Elias rankings that mlbtraderumors has and Molina is really close to qualifying as a Class B.
it's a fun column
The only problem with Molina, however, is that too often he doesn’t catch the ball. If he’s going to mentor Arencibia, someone else has got to teach the young guy how to block pitches in the dirt.
I've been looking at the sky
