Roughly 30 days after the Wallace / Gose Trade

Not that it means too much right now, but Wallace has appeared in 23 games with the Astro’s since the trade, gathering 68 AB’s .191ave, .221 slg, 2 doubles, 0 HR and 5 RBI’s

Not exactly making the Jay’s regret trading him for a high Celing guy in Gose - who seems to be doing quite well in the minors with lots of runs scored....according to the minor leage recaps I have been seeing.

It will take years to understand who won/lost this trade.....but after a month - it seems to be in the BJ's favor.

Go Jays!

Welcome cypruss.

I agree, this trade looks alot better than it did for me when it was initially done. At first I was ready to fly to Toronto to punch AA in the neck, now I might fly there and shake his hand.

Don't get Jose Bautista Mad. You wouldn't like him when he is mad.

Not a good start for Wallace

A BB/K rate of 0.13 certainly isn’t helping him (3 walks to 24 strike outs). That was one of his problems in Vegas this year I think.

Interestingly enough, he’s been hit by a pitch 5 times in only 76 plate appearances – reminds me of Reed Johnson back in the day. How many times does a guy get hit more than he walks? He actually leads the team in hit by pitches.

Nice to see Wallace getting playing time

Would be nice if our batter who is better then him in every respect (Snider) would get nearly as much playing time as Wallace. Oh how I long for Cito being gone and someone giving Snider some trust.

look whose not in the lineup again tonight

Snider is riding the pine again. When Buck was down Arencibia started 4 of 11 games. We are still using as Tallet as a long man when we could be experimenting with someone like Accardo who is doing well in triple A.

On Tallet I think he is a reasonable guy and actually has good numbers even this year against left handers but is useless against righties and so he is being hurt incredibly by Cito’s use of him.

Gose's OBP

Gose has walked 10 times the last 10 games (26 ABs) compared to only 34 walks in 475 AB’s prior to the last 10 games (or 2 walks in his first 57 ABs) as a Blue Jay. It’s clear from the number of walks and also the fall in BA (.154 though he is sporting a .421 OBP over the last 10) that he is trying to learn to take a walk. His propensity to strikeout still scares me, but I really am not impressed with Wallace and I think Gose was a healthy risk to take.

Even when Gose has an 0-fer day, he seems to have the knack for scoring a run or two. I think it’s very promising that he has added the walk to his arsenal.

If it makes anyone feel better, Cooper has doubled his homer output from last year. He now has 20 on the year and has had a remarkable second half. Somehow, he has actually doubled his homer output in every year. 5, 10, 20. I know he is still a long shot, but he must be at least back into the picture.

good point

he is taking fewer walks than last year (fewer Ks too), though, and still might not be hitting well enough to justify a promotion. more power is still better than less, obviously. anyone know how his defense is regarded?

Not highly

From what I heard, surprising because he wasn’t really ever supposed to be a huge power guy. I heard offensively he was similar to Overbay, but defensively he was slightly better than Wallace.

You thinking what I'm thinking?

If his HR production can be modeled as 5*2^n-1 then in his 5th year he’ll be hitting 80, and by his 10th season he’ll be hitting 2560 dingers, that’s production for ya.

by T_Mizz on Aug 30, 2010 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, and some idiot columnist will speculate that he is on steriods…

when in fact

he’s a late-blooming baseball robot. obviously.

To be fair, wouldn't you?

And that he was a cyborg, and an illegally fast processor 2560 is a bit suspicious, I’d draw the line at like 1000 HRs.

Gose looks promising

He is always going to K a LOT. I dont think hes going to turn into Ichiro or anything like that.

I think its realistic to expect him to hit around .260-.270 but with a decent OBP because he can beat out a lot of infield hits.
His WAR value will come from his defence in CF and steals.
