Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Jose Bautista named AL Player of the Week.

Jose Bautista wins Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season.

He hit 4 homers, batted .500 (10 for 20), had 3 doubles and a triple and drove in 7. Add in 9 walks and a 1.350 slugging average and you have a player that very much deserves the honor. Or perhaps voters didn't want to make him angry. Yankees found out about that the hard way.

Congratulations again Jose.

Maybe he will get Player of the Month too...

I just hope that there isn't a double standard in the voting, with Jose brushed aside due to not playing for a contender...

…with no such standard being applied the miggy. By my estimation, Cabrera deserves the award more than anyone else at the moment, but if he wins and Bautista gets brushed aside completely in the voting I will be very annoyed.

Exactly………….People keep referring that the MVP deserves to be from a contending team……..and then completely contradict themselves by saying Cabrerra deserves it………..last i checked neither of those teams are in the playoffs and the Jays have a better record than the Tigers. By the “contender” logic, Hamilton should be a shoe-in since he has a better average and similar numbers to Cabrera’s, but he’s on a winning team.

boy, it’s a tight race between Hamilton and Cabrera, IMO.

Bautista is right there though, very clearly at #3, IMO. Who knows, as Tom says, maybe MVP voters will be afraid of the repercussions of not voting for Bautista. Wouldn’t you?

My word

What an absolutely awe un-inspiring lineup we are trotting out there tonight:

Lineup: Lewis DH, McCoy SS, Bautista RF, Buck C, Lind 1B, Hill 2B, Wise CF, McDonald 3B, Snider LF, Cecil P.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Let me help, Cito:

Lewis-Snider-Bautista-Lind-Buck-Hill-Wise-McDonald-McCoy (if you insist on starting the last 3 all on the same day).

Why not just put Molina in there as well…might as well get all the reserves in if we’re going to flush the game anyways.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Injuries and illness are the reason the the lineup.

EE is on the DL, and Overbay and Escobar are probably both still feeling under the weather. No real alternative.

I'm going to need a program tonight....

wonder why no Wells…I wouldn’t complain about him getting a night off but with 3 others out with injury or illness it seems a funny time for a day off.

The toe he dislocated might be giving him some problems.

I find it odd that people insist that the Most Valuable Player (regardless of sport)

must come from a contending team. Usually a contending team will have several players coming together to have excellent seasons and that is why their team contends. But most analysts will also note that it is easier to produce big numbers if you are protected/aided by other good players.

So this should mean that a player having a great season on a bad team, is probably producing despite adverse conditions. This should make that player far more Valuable to their team in the grand scheme of things.
