And now back to your regularly scheduled programming Gm 111 - Rays @ Jays
Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays, Aug 8, 2010 1:07 PM EDT
So a day after his amazing debut Arencibia is relegated back to the bench as a lot of us suspected. I am not sure where all of the thoughts were coming that his debut would change Cito's mind on putting him in the lineup. Sam and Pat were talking about it on the Connected show after the game making it sound like it was a real possibility. Molina has caught Morrow all year long and there was no way Cito was going to change that. The other thought would be that Cito would DH him but I didn't think it would actually happen and low and behold it didn't. If you go back and look in the threads yesterday you can see that I did post that it didn't matter how well he did, there was no way JP was starting today. Oh and to top it all off, Snider is back on the bench today as Dewayne Wise gets the start in LF and leads off. Thanks a bunch Cito.
We were originally supposed to see Niemann today, but it was announced that he would be scratched from his start yesterday so in his place we get to see Andy Sonnastine who is going to making his first start of the year. Hopefully we can hit the ball as hard as we did yesterday as it would be really great to sweep the Rays and take 5 of 6 overall in the two series against the Yanks and Rays.
As mentioned above, I am not exactly happy about the lineup today. It is like our GM and Manager aren't on the same page at all. AA says Arencibia and Snider are here to play and will get the majority of the starts but so far that isn't the case at all. I know for JPA it is only his 3rd game and it could still prove to be true but it is very frustrating.
Dewayne Wise is in for Lewis/Snider and is playing LF and leading off, everything else the same with Molina dropping down to 9th which bumps up EE to 8th.
It really saddens me that the fact that neither Snider or JP not being in the lineup doesn't surprise me at all. I could maybe understand the argument against it if they had been performing poorly or some such thing, but all JPA did before being called up is tear the cover off the ball and he continued that in his first game here. Our record shows that when Snider is in our lineup we are a better team as he adds a very nice extra punch to our lineup. Yet Cito ignores this and goes about his merry way. Complete Oblivious to everything else except what is going on in his head. Morrow has to start pitching with someone else! There is a chance that Molina is not back next year? And then what happens? I know Cito would spout off some great nonsense about losing to win 2 later, I am sick of that crap answer, you try to win every game that's your job as manager. And by not using Snider and JPA and using much lighter hitting replacements in their place you are not maximizing your chances. Yes I know Wise and Molina probably offer better defensive options but does that really offset it that much? This is when we are supposed to be seeing our future. And instead we get to see more Journeymen, Its the Riccardi era all over again. Fanfriggintastic.
Tune in after the jump for Lineups and Series info
Keep it Civil and Go Jays Go
I am sure the title is from somewhere. I just couldn't be bothered to try and find a quote to justify how annoyed I am with JPA and Snider out of the lineup again.

Cito hates Snider……..I can’t think of another reason why he continues to relegate the kid to the bench
Toronto Maple Leafs: Nowhere to go but up!
Cito
i hate the way you mismanagement our young hitters.
I have absolutely no evidence of this but with the way AA will say something and Cito would do something else, I would bet that AA can’t wait to get rid of him and bring in his own guy.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Why is Wise on the team at this point
we have a glut of outfielders with Snider back. Why sit Snider and Lewis. Both these guys are pieces for the future and need all the playing time they can get. If Lewis is a bit hurt fine, but start Snider then. He’s swinging a hot bat.

I understand not starting JPA
Morrow has had Molina all year, so its tough to all of a sudden throw a rookie in his 2nd game into that spot. Let Morrow and JP work together in some practice setting for a little while first.
I don’t understand the point in playing Wise, or even why he’s on the team. The team already has Wells, Bautista, Snider and Lewis for the OF, and I suppose Lind can swing out there if necessary. What’s the point of playing Wise, AND stunting any further development of Snider? Any time I’ve gotten a chance to watch the Jays this year, I’m baffled at the moves and decisions Cito makes. He really is a clown. You guys that get to watch him all year must really be infuriated by his constant crap, and lame reasoning….

I can see AA looking for a 2nd basemen who could slot in the lead off postion next year
and move Hill to Third and then have an OF of Snider, Jobau and Wells with Lewis as a 4th OF or nice trade bait
no chance
I doubt we even make an exploratory offer

From 2001–2002 Carter served as the color commentator, alongside play-by-play man Chip Caray, for the Chicago Cubs on WGN-TV. Carter was replaced by the man whom Carter himself replaced, Steve Stone.

Dear Rays:
Stop it with weak contact foul balls and plate discipline. Just sit down.
Love,
Me
It wouldn't be so annoying if he had eight strikeouts and some hits with men LOB.
It’s the fact that the ABs are coming with so many weak foul balls and great out pitches that the highly disciplined Rays hitters are laying off of. It’s not an indictment on Morrow. It’s frustration with the TB offense, which is driving up the pitch count.
Despite Pat's disregard of 12-0 against the Os
12-15 against the Yanks/Rays/Sox isn’t bad. It could be better, but considering how well they’re bashing everyone else it really isn’t bad.

yes but I can't plan that far ahead
with the way things are going here I’ll be lucky to be alive in two weeks
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
not too well
as much as I hate to do it, I think it’s time to call in the pros

nah I "discovered" a yellow jacket nest in my backyard yesterday
the hard way
"Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms... The game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman
leaving tomorrow morning
Might be able to do the odd recap the second week. Watching the end of the game in a bar….if he gets it could you put up a quick post sayng it. I can do the recap a bit later but would be gOod to have a post saying he did it right away

you know
I’m done with this pie in the face stuff…played out
Excuse me, do these effectively hide my thunder?
These boys love each other...
that is for sure. Am so happy to be able to watch in person some very important upcoming games in Boston. I do believe they will be hearing footsteps! Go Jays!
Why would anybody even criticize Cito for that?
He’s Morrow’s personal catcher and that has been working out over the past 6 weeks. Areicbia had one awesome game. You can’t supplant Molina because a rookie had one good game.
It’s burns the shit out of me to hear some of thee criticism Cito gets. He’s doing a great job. I wish we could bring him back next year as manager personally.
I can understand Molina/Morrow
but alteast play Travis. The kid needs to play every single day unless he really needs a day off. Kind of unfortunate/fortunate that Wells went down for Travis to get ABs.
HEADING STRAIGHT FOR THEM, I PRESS DOWN MAH GUNS!
Snider has been mostly playing since he got back from injury
He was rested today; what’s the big deal? Cito is the most micro-managed manager I’ve ever seen. Do I think he has some flaws with overplaying some guys and not playing certain guys? Yes, but no one gives him credit when sticking with certain guys pays off.
I went with a friend to the game yesterday
And this guy made a good point, which makes a lot of sense to me. He posited that Cito perhaps has a undying loyalty to his players because he as a player was shuffled in and out of the lineup for much of his playing career, and that the couple years when Cito was successful is when he was playing everyday.
Makes a lot of sense to me and seems his managerial style has been shaped from this experience./
Snider has been back on the roster for 9 games
He has started 5 of them. I guess that is a majority. But barely. I can’t see how anyone would consider that mostly considering what he is supposed to be for our team
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Well
He he pinch hit today and played the field, and he pinch hit on July 31 and subbed in July 30 so he’s actually played 8 of 9 games. So even though the pinch hitting is not a full game it still counts for something.
We are also not privy to how Snider feels on a day-to-day basis. Is he totally recovered from his injury? Can we blame Cito for easing Snider into the lineup his first couple days back after 2.5 months off?
All the naysayers do apparently. Lets face it, nothing he does will be right to these people.
Ah yes, playing the field and pinch hitting in an at bat is the same as starting right sure.
Cito is treating him like a platoon player. And you can’t say its a one off with how he has treated Snider, he showed it with Green and others back in the day before he was fired the first time.
Its how he manages and why I was so pissed when he was brought back.
Yes he does some things right but he is by far not the right manager for a team rebuilding/retooling who has a lot of young players
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Ah yes, playing the field and pinch hitting in an at bat is the same as starting right sure.
That’s what I said.
Anyway, Snider was playing full time before his injury. I can’t blame Cito for easing Snider into it slowly. The kid is 22 years old. Cito has already shown a willingness to play him everyday. The fact he hasn’t started every game since he’s been back means little so few games into it. At least he’s seeing a bit of ML pitching almost every game.
I'm not saying Cito is the best maneger ever
Just saying he gets a bum rap and second guessed way to often. He’s doing a fine job overall this year, some legitimate second-guessing aside. His style is his style, and whether you agree or not, he’s been a successful manager, and has guided this team way past most experts prognostications.
If he came back, that would be fantastic. But that said I’m sure we can find somebody else who can do as good a job or better. But it just may be worse also.
too bad
we had to listen to Cosentino for this great weekend
Excuse me, do these effectively hide my thunder?
