Our Starting pitchers in August.
So the scary month of August didn't turn out so bad, we went 15-13 on the month. Our pitchers had a 4.37 against some of the best teams in baseball. Our starters went 11-9 with a 4.53. Relievers 4-4, 4.04 with 7 saves.
Ricky Romero: 3-1, 4.07 ERA in 6 starts, 1 CG and 42 innings. 17 walks and 29 k. 7 innings a start. Pretty decent.
Shaun Marcum: 1-3, 5.06 in 5 starts, 1 CG and 32 innings. 7 walks and 23 K. Gave up too many homers (8) this month. He had 2 good starts, 1 ok start and 2 bad starts.
Brett Cecil: 3-2, 3.67 in 5 starts and 34.1 innings. 9 walks and 26 k. He had one poor start but the rest were good.
Brandon Morrow: 3-0, 2.97 in 5 starts, 1 CG and 30.1 innings. 10 walks and 49 k. The month includes the 1 hitter. really great month. It is kind of sad that we won't see him again till next year.
Marc Rzepczynski: 1-2, 5.40, 4 starts and 20 innings. 12 walks and 15 k. He had one good start and 3 bad ones. I hope he can get it back.

Rotation for next year
1. Marcum
2. Romero
3. Morrow
4. Cecil
5. Rzepchinski or Mills or Richmond or Ray or Drabek?
Closer: Gregg
Setup: Purcey
Setup: Jansenn
Litch
Could still win the #5.

I was really rooting for Litsch this season but he’s getting really injury prone now. Either way our pitching depth is amazing.

Dustin McGowen
why doesn’t anyone mention him as a possibility for next year’s rotation. he should be recovered from last surgery and ready to compete.
Because he has faced a string of set backs.
If he can pitch for the Jays I am all for it, but I don’t think it is reasonable to count on him at this time.
I won't count him out.
i just think back to when they let Carpenter get away after the shoulder problems he had. the “setback” was an undiscovered tear in the shoulder. i believe he’ll be set to compete at some point in the spring.
What he said
At this point, I wonder if it wouldn’t be better converting Dustin into a reliever. If his arm can take it, he could be a superb closer. He has the right tools for the job and his weakness for giving up stolen bases would be somewhat mitigated by only pitching one inning at a time.
Re: Dustin being a reliever
I think we all had this discussion in ST or even before. It has also been suggested by tsn.ca.
His stuff would make him a good righty setup guy or even a closer, as suggested. But, yeah, his starting career should be over.
why?
i don’t see Carpenter closing for the Cardinals.
not everyone is Carpenter

I think most people would consider it lucky if Dustin ever saw a game again whether that be in relief or starting
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
I didn't say give up on McGowan
I just don’t think it is reasonable to expect a pitcher who will not have pitched in 2 years to be the best option to fill out the rotation.
I hope he can return, I hope he will pitch again, and I regret that the Jays gave up on Carpenter. Having said that McGowan has to be able pitch better then Rzep, Litsch, Mills and everyone else who is gunning for that 5th spot in spring training for him to be considered.
really
hope he is recovering. i think you made good points, and i was only giving my thoughts. nothing intended. but if he should fully recover…. just how deep might our pitching be.
From what I heard and read these past few months, Dustin will be lucky to ever pitch in the Majors again. I really liked him however I don’t think he is capable of regaining his previous form.

Broken record, but...
…no Snider again tonight. Mac playing 3B and hitting 2nd. McCoy at SS.
Honestly, AA needs to take that option away from Cito. For MY sanity, if nothing else.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
on the bright JPA is starting
Although I think Snider is going to be more important to the Jays future…
This is just dumb
What could possibly be the point of starting McCoy? Playing 3B didn’t bother Bautista last night.

Cito Gaston
As much as we all LOVE Jonny Mac, he shouldn’t be starting. We need to move forward and let our young guns start.
Snider needs to start everyday, this is deja vu from last year
Put Lind on 1B if you are expecting him to takeover from Overbay next season
Start JPA at C and let him get used to our pitching staff
Use Buck at DH to give him AB’s
Why Why Why Why do you give Wise or Macdonald starts if they aren’t apart of our future?
Wise is the only backup at CF, MacDonald is the best backup at SS and 2B.
Those are good reasons, but they don’t explain using MacDonald at 3rd or McCoy at all.
