Shawn Hill and Robert Ray called up by Blue Jays.
John Lott thwips that Marc Rzepczynski is to start Wednesday (on short rest as he started Saturday) and that Shawn Hill is being called up to start Thursday. It is nice to see Hill get a start and hopefully a 3 or 4 more. Hill is 6-1 with a 1.61 in 11 minor league starts. in 56 innings he struck out 39 and walked just 8. Always nice to see another Canadian play for the Jays.
Robert Ray is also being called up so I'd imagine the plan is for him and Scrabble to 'share' the Wednesday game. It is kind of strange that they would use Rzep on short rest considering it is September and we have expanded rosters. Marc didn't throw a lot of pitches Saturday and looked good for the first couple of innings. He did have a bit of bad luck with calls and defense too so many it will work out.
So it looks like we won't see Brad Mills in a Jay's uniform again this season. He had a good start today. I hoped he might get another couple of starts.

I don’t get the point of squeezing Zep in for a quick start either. I don’t know what the rush is at this point of the year, it isn’t like we are short on options. I do hope Mills can make it out for a game. I am surprised we are still using Marcum, I thought he would have been shut down by now. I am also wondering if we should be shutting down Romero and Cecil. This would be a great time to get an early audition in for the 5th spot next year for guys not named Drabek or Stewart.
Accardo wont be up after what he said nor will he be back next year IMO
Come on, Rook. Show us that million-dollar arm, 'cause I got a good idea about that five-cent head of yours.
I think this was his last year the Jays owned his rights and your right there is no way he even begins conversations with brass after this season.

one ore season, I think. It will definitely be interesting to see what they do with him. His attitude has cost him some money and service time.
“I was lied to a lot last year, where I was told one thing and something else ended up happening,” Accardo said. “That didn’t sit well with me, but I turned (over) a (new) leaf and we talked and he told me everything’s going to change, and really things haven’t changed.”

JP Ricardi
Maybe JP Ricardi did lie to him. I personally found it weird that the Jays had a 28 year old reliever with save experience in AAA. Nonetheless, he shouldn’t have said that and dug himself into a bigger hole.

Sure, maybe JP did lie to him, but then he threw the organization under the bus by saying things haven’t changed which basically means the same as they lied to me again this year.
Then he goes on to criticize the way he was used and that he wasn’t set up to succeed. Which he may have a point but as a fringe reliever he needed to perform when he got the chances (even if they were rare) and he flat out didnt.

Pretty Useless Trivia
When Shawn Hill comes up and starts on Wednesday, he will be wearing “S. Hill” on the back of his jersey because, of course, our second baseman Aaron Hill shares his last name.
The question here is: who is the last Jays starter to wear his first initial on the back of his jersey?
Note 1: I’m not asking about the last pitcher (since Rommie Lewis did it this earlier this year).
Note 2: I don’t know the answer to this question.
I think David Wells wore “Wells” and Vernon wore “V. Wells” because he was the more junior player.

When you say “starter” do you literally mean starting pitcher? or regular?
Either way, It’s quite possible the answer is nobody.
Rommie Lewis, however, wears his.
Did Turner Ward wear one, since Duane was on the team?
Yea I meant starting pitcher at first. And yes, Turner Ward wore “T. Ward”
I remember in 2001 we had Luis Lopez at 3rd and Felipe Lopez at SS… I don’t remember who wore the initial though. Neither of them were regular starters. Before that was Robert and Tomas Perez, but I was really young back then… were either a “regular”? Lately, we had Justin and Trevor Miller in the bullpen.

I can’t see Zep getting pulled if he’s pitching well. He has plenty of innings left in his arm and doesn’t need to be on a pitch count. That said, if he pitches like he normally does, Ray will be in by the fourth.

Zep has gotten some tight zones called against him lately, at least according to gameday. Ray has been terrible at Vegas, don’t see him doing well in the bigs.
Go with zep
Personally, I think Rzep has more potential than Ray. Ray hasn’t had a good season in Vegas. I still don’t understand why Ray was called up instead of Brad Mills.
