I hope they have pudding - Gm 138 - Rangers @ Jays
Texas Rangers at Toronto Blue Jays, Sep 7, 2010 7:07 PM EDT
Annnnnnnd I'm back! Yeah... don't everyone cheer at once. I had a bit of a busy weekend and the rest of the BBB Crew were absolutely ecstatic to take over the game thread duties in my absence. So first off I wanted to say thanks to Tom, Hugo and Jesse for taking care of it. Secondly I just wanted to take a moment to say how absolutely awesome this wedding I was at was. They held it at this heritage farm where there was all these old buildings, it wasn't a theme wedding though, just a neat setting. Then for dinner they had massive BBQ with pretty much all you could eat Steak, Chicken, Ribs, Veggie Kabobs and Baked Potatoes. Oh Yeah. It was awesome. And lastly to top off a great dinner... OPEN BAR BABY! WOOHOO! Needless to say, I didn't want to night to end.
Now that I am back to the real world (Work sucked today by the way) its back to my favorite part of the work days... getting home, relaxing and watching some Jays and who knows maybe I will actually get to watch a whole game for the first time in awhile.
On the mound today we have Shaun Marcum taking on Scott Feldman. I have really enjoyed watching Marcum go about his business out on the field this year. While it is always fun to watch someone like Morrow completely overpower the hitters it can be just as entertaining to watch Marcum cut up hitters with that awesome change of his
In the lineup today Lewis is still out with Wise taking his spot in the outfield. Snider is still in the lineup and will continue the trend of inexpecibly batting low in the lineup. JP Arencibia still doesn't make his way into the lineup with Lind back at DH and Buck behind the plate.
Tune in after the jump for full lineups and series info.
Keep it Civil and Go Jays Go
Today's title is from the 5th Harry Potter movie.

I love how Wise always bats leadoff when he plays:
Citos rationelle “Well he’s fast, he must be a good leadoff hitter”.
Ideally wouldn’t it be nice to have a lead off hitter that, I dunno, takes the odd walk?
I just looked….289 batting average with a .306 OBP aided by 2 walks.
He’s had as many triples as walks.

No high school football tonight!
Thank you Fox Southwest.

Asked again about Arencibia’s role, Gaston reiterated he would not play him against playoff contenders. Might get him in vs. Balt/Seattle …
LottOnBaseball
“I don’t know how much playing time he’s going to get. He’s going to have to come back next year and have a hell of a spring, I guess.”
No Cito, he is supposed to be a starter next year not have a hell of a spring. Damn it to hell!
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Cito has done a lot of good this year, but I am sick of his inability to handle young players.
This is especially magnified given our teams current building situation
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
What really ticks me off about Cito is the remarks he makes
Seriously, did he really need to make that comment about Arencibia? How is that helpful at all?!
Seriously though, I am not asking for the majority of starts. Buck has earned the right to play out the year as the number 1 but get JPA into the game, Either as a DH or catcher in some form of rotation. Lind while its not great can play the outfield, move some things around damn it.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
He's being sat so Cito can be fair to the playoff teams.
Clearly having JPA play once in a while will jeopardize Anaheims ability close the 922 game lead that Texas has.

Anyone know of a non-myp2p stream of the game that will be up?
Much appreciated if you do. Maybe it’s a few minutes too early for them to start popping up.

Not to add insult to injury or anything, but...
I’m in the southwest U.S…and, I’m able to watch it. Pretty sad.

escobar is faster than half the jays we right now
not faster than Lewis, Wse or Wells though
Johnny Mac?
JMac does pitch run over Wise in critical situations….
Hahah
I am laughing at my own joke…I still don’t understand that.
For some reason
I’ve been getting a speedy vibe from him. He just seems like a guy who would be fast.

Seriously how hard would it have been to show that during the review instead of after the commercial break.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Yeah but that was a completely different camera angle. All I mean is how hard would it have been for that camera to pan over and show the bar from that angle which was much cleared and more defined then the original one and go “see from that angle the bar is behind the wall it will be interesting to see what the umpires decide.”
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...

you know, I'd give him a logt of those but not how he deals with young players
he know much much more about baseball than me but he could learn to deal with young players better.
yeah... he coached us to a great season... but he coached for 2010 and not for 2011
…where we could contend if we´ll find a 5th starter

I dont even think that.
If he was playing for 2010 Snider should still be in hte lineup as he is more dangerous hitter then having Lewis or Wise hit.
Hill and Lind would have been moved a lot quicker then what they were as well.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
he really bugged me the first time around.
delgado had a couple of bad weeks so he gets sent down. Shawn Green would sit while Carter and his .280 OBP would play. hated it.
Can we start to dinger Feldman now please

Is that the first intentional walk vdub has gotten this year?
I’d imagine it has to be.
That's surprising.
Then again Lind or Hill were hitting behind him the first few months, weren’t they? And he was absurdly hot in April.
Not on gameday
But who cares right

Dammit...
Oh well, at least they chased the starting pitcher out of the game and took the lead.
For those of you who aren’t listening to the game on the radio, and who have access to the radio, I recommend you turn it on. Tony LaCava is on for the 6th inning to discuss the minor leagues with Jerry and Allan.
AA had a similar chat with them around this time last season, and it was very interesting.
Wow, Vlad is really slow looking nowadays
is he carrying an injury or just getting old?
Is it just me or does the AL east become brutal next year?
Assuming the Yankees and red sox perform as per usual, the rays will obviously drop significantly next year assuming they lose a bunch of players but I think they’ll still be decent, the jays will hopefully be at least contending with the sox and Yankees, and the orioles will at the very least not be doormats. A division where all 5 teams have a winning record? Is it possible.
by Nadia on Sep 7, 2010 8:42 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
yeah it should be interesting
I wouldn’t bet against the Rays being good again too. they have some more good players coming up.
It would be very hard for all 5 teams to have a winning record
each team plays all the others 18 times.
It's going to be tough next season, I think.
As much as I’m excited about the Jays, they had very good seasons from 1-4 starters, as well as a crazy year for Bautista, as well as good seasons at most positions, and a career year from their stopper. Not to mention all the injury problems from the Red Sox.
Yet they still couldn’t make up much ground in this crazy division.

I'm sure there is some trickle down effect
Less people watching on TV leads to less interest in the team which leads to less attendance.

I've always maintained
that there should be a TV setting for sports where you can turn off the announcers and just hear the sounds of the game. That would be so good, no matter the sport.

I don't know if you agree but...
he really gets me angry when he is talking about how great the other team is while one of our pitchers is getting beat up. It feels like he is rubbing it in our faces and he works for our team.
Probably still sore he got fired.

You know,
I wouldn’t mind as much if he praised our pitchers and players equally as much but when the opp team is batting he talks about how great they are and when the jays are batting he talks about how great they opp teams pitcher is. It should at the very least be even. Someone should tell them that only jays fans are watching sportsnet and he doesn’t need to be kissing anyones butt.

Outside of the bad month or so he had, he's been very solid this year.
Easy to remember the blown saves and forget how many good outings overshadow them.
True
It’s not the bad month that scares me but his habit of nibbling on the corners instead of using the movement on his cutter and challenging the batters with some 94mph heat.
But yeah he’s pitched well overall.
