I don't think there's any doubt that Gose and Marisnick is our best position prospects (after d'Arnaud)
I’d put Marisnick ahead, but it’s too close to really complain about.

Gose is a bit closer to the show. I think his floor is lower and his ceiling is higher than Marisnick.

Really?
I think its the opposite. Not trying to be contrarian here, but Gose is already capable of being a major leaguer at this point just through his defense and speed. His absolute ceiling should be a gold glove CF with blazing speed and an average bat. Marisnick’s absolute ceiling is a slugging CF with great speed and gold glove defense, but he’s also much farther from the majors.

Gose’s bat is a still a work in progress. He has similar HR and extra base totals to Marisnick but not the obp. He is 8 months older though too.

He is 8 months older though too.
He played 2 levels above Marisnick and was one of the youngest position players in the league.

How do you know that Gose’s absolute ceiling is an average hitter?
by JaysSaskatchewan on Oct 2, 2011 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
I think he's struggled too much with contact
though of course he’s young so he can improve. I just don’t see him being a high OBA guy in the Majors

I can't really see him having an above average bat
He can take some walks, but that’s all I see. Can’t hit for high average, doesn’t have a lot of power.

right now he looks like a worse BJ Upton
not that that’s horrible, but Gose has reasonable power (161 ISO last year as a 21 year old in AA is decent enough) though he’s missing the plate discipline that Upton has. looking at how much Upton dominated the Minors (.878 OPS in AA at 19!!!) makes me worry for Gose, though less so for Marisnick

Who would you name as mlb comparables for Gose and Marisnick’s ceilings? Just curious…
by JaysSaskatchewan on Oct 2, 2011 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
honestly no idea
that has to go to someone who knows more than I
by benk on Oct 2, 2011 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
definitely BJ Upton for Gose
maybe this year’s justin upton for marisnick? (ie much lower k rate, slightly lower bb rate, and a bit more power than gose)

thing with Gose though
is he strikes out way more than Upton did, though their walk rates are comparable – that said, Upton moved way faster through the Minors. still probably the best comp we can find.
and Marisnick looks like an amazing prospect right now. hopefully his super-high BABIP this year was the result of owning his competition and not “luck”, but I’m getting really excited about him

Gose has a bit more speed (or at least SB’s), bats left and has a better arm. Upton’s minor league numbers look better though :)

This is true, Gose has a better speed tool then Upton and arm, most likely.
Not changing my signature until Hechavarria is promoted to the big leagues.
[Funny phrase about how few followers I have on Twitter]
I could see Marisnick becoming a slightly worse Carlos Beltran
which would be awesome

Hopefully one of them pan’s out. Both of them would be ‘sweeter than candy’.

of course
the same thing is said about 30 other prospects and rarely do they actually turn out like that

but sometimes they do
and they’re a helluva lot more likely to turn out like their best-case scenario if they dominate in the Minors
yeah
Just trying to calm my expectations.

I want them all to dance on their ceiling. Thanks Lionel Ritchie…

I could see him as a Grady Sizemore type of player
Worse BB%, but better K%.

I think it’s the reverse. Gose could play MLB games right now as a 4th OF option who can come off the bench to pinch run. I don’t think Marisnick is capable of doing that just yet, or any role in the MLB right now.
