Congratulations St. Louis Cardinals World Series Champs

ST LOUIS, MO - OCTOBER 28: The St. Louis Cardinals celebrate after defeating the Texas Rangers 6-2 to win the World Series in Game Seven of the MLB World Series at Busch Stadium on October 28, 2011 in St Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

I'm very happy for Marc Rzepczynski. He's been a favorite of mine for a while now, I am glad he gets a ring. He pitched in 12 playoff games. In 4 World Series game, he pitched 2.2 inning allowed 2 hits, no runs and 4 strikeouts. Octavio Dotel also pitched in 12 playoff games, finishing with a 2.61 ERA over 10.1 innings. Edwin Jacksonwas 1-1 in 4 postseason starts, with a 5.60 ERA.

The other former Jay pitcher, Chris Carpenter went 4-0 in the playoffs with a 3.25 ERA. He also went 2-0 in the World Series and, course, won game 7.

David Freese was voted the World Series MVP. He also won the NLCS MVP and set a post season record with 21 RBI.

In our World Series contest, the only ones to guess that the Cards would win in 7 were yellowalman, blueandwhite and Carm. 68 runs were scored in the series, yellowman guessed 67 runs so he wins the DVD. Congratulations yellowman, you have 3 business days to send me an email so we can get you your DVD. Carm was close too, guessing 71 runs, just missing by 3 runs.

Congrats Cards and blueandwhite!

I’m happy for Zep, Dotel, Pujols, Freese, Berkman, and Carp. They and the Cardinals truely never gave up despite being 10 games back, and despite being down to their last strike of the season.

I am also happy for Mike Napoli. Sure his team suffered a tough loss, but don’t forget about his effort this year during the season and especially in the playoffs. We all saw how horrifying his ankle looked when he stepped awkwardly on second base in game 6, and yet he continued to play and squat behind the plate. Napoli wasn’t the only one playing through injuries by any means… I just wonder how many players will reveal their conditions tomorrow.

Anyway. Looking forward to baseball next year!

Congrats Scrabble and blueandwhite

The dvd is cool. The best part is that you watch the video with the radio audio (Tom Cheek),

I've gotta sleep but if anyone's still lurking here...

You can stream Game 4 of the Korean Series between the Samsung Lions and the SK Wyverns here if you are in need of a baseball fix. Lions are leading the best-of-seven series 2 games to 1.

Game 5 will be on Monday 5 am Eastern!

that would be awesome

I remember a bunch of Koreans showed up to the RC when Chan Ho Park, who was a Texas Ranger at the time, was scheduled to pitch against the Jays a few years back. Unfortunately, he was traded to San Diego that very day — but that was the first game Jays game I attended and is how I became a Jays fan.

Ok needed go to sleep so watch 2 innings

His fastball was about 149-153 km/h, saw a few 154 and 155s(i believe 154 is around 95 mph). His breaking ball which i was is a slider is about 133km. I think i also saw a changeup or splitter that was near 126

His slider got pretty good movement, but he wasnt throwing it much in the zone so no idea on his command. Man i suck at scouting.

Congrats yellowman and to the Cards!

What an amazing world series, so sad that baseball is done for the year…

Also sad to see LaCava go :(

by blueandwhite31 on Oct 29, 2011 1:46 AM EDT reply actions

is it final with LaCava? It seems it’s the Oriols’ job on the line. One has to think hard before getting into that can of worms. Ask Pat Gillick…

He hedged his bet by putting 100 grand on the Rangers before the series began.

by JaysSaskatchewan on Oct 29, 2011 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions

But bettors typically put $10 or $20 down at 500/1. What set apart these Cardinals bets were the size. This bettor showed “stronger confidence” by laying out $500.

In fact, this bettor wanted to bet even more money on the Cardinals, but “we scaled it back” to limit potential losses, Rood said.

I have an autograph of a World Series winner! (Zep)

Missed the game, but taped it so I’ll watch it today. I cannot believe how they got in on the last day of the regular season and went all the way. It’s a once in a lifetime event.

A day that will live in infamy: August 4th, 2011, Sept. 28, 2011 wasn't bad either.

This is another example of the stupidity of most on this board

Many here were saying how TLR is washed up, he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he should walk away from the game, he’s run the Cards into the ground, etc.

The funny thing about always pulling stats out of your as* is that: 1) You lose sight of the big picture, and 2) Your perception of increasing self-worthiness is in inverse relation to your actual worthiness.

I don’t expect the faux elitists on this board to change their ways.

One final note about TLR: he said Rasmus was nothing but a bench player and I have not seen anything to disprove that opinion.

I didn't take offense to any of that except for people standing up for TLR

Motte/Lynn was one of the biggest flubs in history, but its not gonna get the same play because the Cardinals won.

The only reason TLR looked smart in the WS was because he was matching wits with Ron Washington.

That was a fun series to watch

Congrats Yellowman for winning…I was oh so close! :) Oh yeah, and congrats to the Cardinals too!!

If you can't convince them, confuse them!

Congratz to the Cards! and our former Jays!

Great series, great playoffs, great season…just a story book year for them. Rangers played some great baseball, they’ll be back again soon enough. Still sad I didn’t get to watch game 6…school totally took over, but even the highlights are just awesome!

….on another note i completely forgot about the contest :) got to love pleasant surprises!

well AA is going to have a tough yr rebuilding again. possibly we can trade kyle Drabek for a reliever and maybe pass of Rasmus as well later in the yr and gain back a reliever. we can then re insert davis in cf better speed and hitter than Rasmus who really was a dud. now we just need to fill the hole at 2b. that will be a tough order now that there is a shortage of second basemen

Is it to early for ‘Francona to the Rangers’ rumors yet? To me, it felt like their manager lost it for them in game 6.

Does the Cards win justify the Rasmus deal? I think so.

I don’t think you can reasonably fire a manager who just took his team to game 7 of the world series.

by Gerse on Oct 29, 2011 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, of course the Card’s win justifies the Rasmus deal. They wouldn’t have made the playoffs without the Escobar trade either.

In an alternate universe (Earth Prime) the Rangers are World Champs because of this 9th inning catch.

Some different game, I just copied the video path from the Ranger’s blog.

by JaysSaskatchewan on Oct 30, 2011 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

The Cards won because...

Their players decided to play in a way that removed temptation for TLR to make a move. Carpenter righted himself so that he did not have to be replaced and the team evened the score quickly and then added a run so that TLR did not have to do any early pinch hitting.

It was a game of managerial chicken and Washington blinked first. I really don’t understand the IBB to load the bases but that sealed the game for the Cards.
