Around SBN: Stan Van Gundy Fired As Head Coach Of The Magic

Blue Jays Pick Up Option on Edwin Encarnacion, Decline Option on Jon Rauch

Surprise.

I think we all knew this was the way things were going to go. Edwin Encarnacion will make $3.5 million in 2012 (I'd work for half that).

Jon Rauch will become a free agent. Rauch had a 4.85 ERA in 53 games this year, and had 11 saves in 16 chances, but finished the season on the DL after knee surgery.

I just wished Jon Rauch was as successful as his war face is.

I doubt WAR wants to mess with Rauch

It won’t like it when he’s angry.

Of more import is whether they offer Rauch arbitration. When is the deadline for that?

by Gareth31 on Oct 31, 2011 6:29 PM EDT reply actions

November 23

he is a type b, so less of an problem to offer it.

For 2010, 2011 or 2012? Don’t we say that every year?

by JaysSaskatchewan on Oct 31, 2011 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope but I'm saying it now

For 2012. Its going to happen!

The day we trade this guy is the day hes going to go off and be an All-Star. Him and Thames.

by Mike Andrew on Oct 31, 2011 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

what if we trade them for a better All-Star?

Or a guy who doesn’t get voted to the All-Star team, but is actually a better player?

by SuckaMD on Oct 31, 2011 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

this definitely happens every year

by scrambles the death dealer on Nov 1, 2011 1:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I doubt he even gets to 30.

It could happen… but 40 is a reach. Only 2 players hit 40 or more homeruns last year.

by Sniderlover on Oct 31, 2011 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions

But still Edwin has some mad pop in his bat

Some of the balls he hit off the wall last year were essentially bounced in the dirt. If he developed an eye he would be unstoppable.

by Mike Andrew on Nov 1, 2011 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

his eye isn't bad

his BB% this year and last were around 8 IIRC, and earlier in his career he walked over 10% of the time. not a great eye, but not bad at all. what he really needs to do is cut down on his infield flies

by benk on Nov 2, 2011 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions

AA should pay Rauch

to not accept arbitration. That way AA gets his pick and Rauch gets his money!

And CC is off the market, well he was never on the market

looks like he got 1 extra year extension beyond his original 4 years contract

Apparently the vesting option is about his shoulders

so if he is healthy or the problems are not shoulder related, he would get another $25mil

Yep, as long as nothing is wrong with his shoulder

the 7th year will vest, so basically he can have elbow problems or TJ and still get the $25 mil, atleast that is what everyone is saying

as A-Rod remaining on their contracts. Except A-Rod will be 41 :)

about a Jays’ minor league team there. Here is the article from the Ottawa Citizen.

mlbtraderumors has their intial predictions for the top 50 FA

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/10/2012-top-50-free-agents-1.html

Interesting that the Jays are considered to be the “predicted” winner on three of them.
Yu Darvish
David Ortiz
Eric Bedard (?)

Of the three, the one I’d want the Jays to get is Yu (assuming he’s posted.)

I thought he was type B.

I have to thank AA for his ballsy move signing Jose for that 6 year deal

The Jays would be up Excrement Creek if they got into a bidding war for Jose’s services.

Anyone have that GIF of Rauch turning into the Hulk the day Farrell ripped his jersey off? Man, good times… how many days until pitchers and catchers report again?
