Of note

John Schneider (now coach, GCL) was manager of the Vancouver Canadians in 2011 before taking a leave of absence mid-season to attend to family matters when Rich Miller (now outfield-baserunning coordinator) was named interim manager.

John Tamargo Jr. was interim manager in Lansing for a few games in 2010, and actually managed against his father and former Expos backup catcher John Tamargo for a game (and won).

notable absence

Justin Mashore doesn’t appear to be working with the Jays anymore . He will be probably missed by Anthony Gose … Adeiny Hechavarria maybe not so much .

I think they might turn him into a bit of a rover

Everyone seems to know he needs to at least start the year in AAA working with Gose and Hech specifically. Building Gose a 2 strike approach, teaching him to take walks etc. and continuing whatever tweak they say he did with Hech last year. Also I hope he spends spring training working with Snider as the swing he built him last year was pretty, although it didn’t last long.

Once Hech, Gose are set in AAA and Snider in (hopefully) the Majors, Mottola could probably help JPA take a walk as well. Then whomever of our top prospects needs help the most he can go there. I know I’m making him sound like a miracle worker but I like the swings and approaches he helps players make.

Regarding Gose
Building Gose a 2 strike approach, teaching him to take walks etc.

From that recent article, it seems as if the Jays deliberately did not want Gose to develop a two strike approach (that is, swing defensively) because they wanted him to build muscle memory for his new swing. Now that he’s had a full year with the new swing, they said they’re going to allow Gose to engage in a bit of slap defensive hitting when it’s appropriate. The Jays still want him to be aggressive and commit to swinging hard at strikes but now he has the option of cutting down his swing on after two strikes.

I remain very optimistic about Gose overcoming his contact problems. The key thing is even though he had contact problems, he was still taking a lot of walks.
