Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Article from Wednesday. Read into it what you will, but if you read between the lines it looks like a hint that Drabek is coming North with the team.

Nothing too shocking here...

But makes sense to combine experience with rookie talent! Now will the best pitcher for the 5th spot please stand up!

Reading that article, it seems that nobody actually said that Drabek is coming up north.

It’s just writers make news out of nothing.

I said between the lines.
Why would they make a point of making a personal catcher for someone in AAA when the cathcer is going to be in the bigs.

Again its a personal interpretation sort of thing.

JohhnyG, My disagreement is not with you

From what the Sun put up, you can definitely see “between the lines” (and that was the writer’s intention, I believe) that Drabek is coming up north.

however, If I isolate the Farrell’s quotes from the imposed context, I’m not sure that’s what he meant…

Ahhhh…………….. I see.

So your questioning the manager now.
Worst kind of troublemaker you are.

I may be the minority, but I’d prefer if Drabek starts in AAA

Sometime we'll agree

But I want Drabek in the 4th or 5th spot in the Jays rotation.

Those that want Lawrie up with the Jays I disagree with. Stoeten says it better on DJF; but Lawrie should be in Vegas for the start of the season.

But I really want Drabek to start with the Jays. Not sure what to do about Reyes, Zep and Litsch though.

I don't understand the automatic pass that Drabek gets

He’s not old for AAA, and he didn’t destroy AA either. I really don’t care that Las Vegas is hell for pitchers, so is four of the five AL East parks. I’d prefer he masters his changeup, cutter, control and command in the minors before he is called up.

he won pitcher of the year in AA

how else do you propose he “destroy” it?

by benk on Mar 18, 2011 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know

maybe post a good K/9 and BB/9? A good FIP would be nice too, considering his was only average/slightly above average at 3.87.

perhaps

but his numbers are FAR from “bad” though you’re right that they’re not particularly dominant. that said, he was only 22 and he also missed a full season with TJ surgery. so I guess I could agree that he could use another half season in the Minors, if for no reason than to delay his service time.

but he’s pitched a full season and I really don’t think there’s a whole lot to gain from sticking him in AAA to delay his service time; I think he’d improve more by learning the Majors right now. but that could just be a matter of opinion

Reyes should come north

We need another lefty in the pen, especially since Purcey has struggled. He can also be a spot starter if needed like we used Tallet. Reyes is also waiver eligible so if we send him down he’d likely be claimed. Zep and Janssen arent waiver eligible so either can go to AAA. I think Villaneuva has played his way on the team at this point.

Its also highly possible we keep 8 relievers and 3 bench players until we trade a reliever.

Come on man,

Was just finally starting to get those images of Cito bringing Tallet into a game out of my mind. Seriously though, I doubt we’ll take 8 relievers north, and though Janssen’s got options, I don’t think he’s pitched his way off the team. I agree that Villy so has played his way onto the team, so far.

The writer also assumes that Molina will continue to be the exclusive catcher for Morrow. That may be true, but I think that JPA should get some starts with Morrow.

by siggian on Mar 18, 2011 11:14 AM EDT reply actions

Possibly, but I see one bad start and that ending quick. (Whether thats right or not)

Feeling really good about Molina

It’s not news as pitchers already talked about it last year, but this Globe and Mail article on Brandon Morrow gives me good vibes about Jose Molina and his contribution to our young pitchers. Just like Morrow last year, Kyle Drabek and his development at the big-league level will be in good hands. With Molina, it’s almost like you’re getting another coach on the team, which also makes him a great partner for Arencibia.

by jabalong on Mar 19, 2011 2:12 AM EDT reply actions

Exactly

And for that reason I hope we extend him next year and keep him around for a bit longer, as we have some more young kids coming up then, like Stewart. And who knows maybe his influence might stretch as far as players like Thames and Lawrie.
