Minor League Recap: 9th and 10th of April

Hello and welcome to a new year of following the Jays' minor league system with Bluebird Banter. Tom has asked me to help the BBB staff with this, and so I've gladly stepped in to help out. I hope I can provide the same reading pleasure as your favorite Bluebird Banter bloggers. So, let's get on with it and take a look at how our minor leaguers are doing.

The Las Vegas 51s:

Darin Mastroianni: 1-for-6 (2ks) saturday, 3-for-4 sunday. .389/.421/.389

Brett Lawrie: 2-for-5 with a triple saturday. 1-for-4 with a walk sunday. .375/.474/.625

Eric Thames: 2-for-5 saturday, 2-for-4 and a walk sunday, and a double in both games. .438/.474/.625 (funny how he has the exact same OBP and SLG as Lawrie)

David Cooper: was 4-for-5 on saturday, "just" 1-for-4 with a walk on sunday. Is hitting line drives like crazy. .471/.500/.588

Adam Loewen: didn't play saturday, but was 1-for-3 with a walk on sunday. .100/.231/.100

Other notables: Chris Woodward is hitting well, going 2-for-4 with a walk on both weekend days, hitting a home run on saturday. Is now hitting .375/.444/.625 (that does look a lot like Brett Lawrie's line too, doesn't it?)

Star-divide

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats:

Anthony Gose: 0-for-4 saturday, 1-for-5 sunday. .176/.176/.176

Adeiny Hechavarria: 1-for-4 with a double saturday, 0-for-4 sunday. .250/.294/.375

Travis d'Arnaud: (probably) rested on saturday, 1-for-3 with a double and a walk on sunday. .091/.231/.182

Michael McDade: 4-for-4 with a double saturday, 1-for-3 with a walk and a double sunday. .500/.529/.688 (even though he's struck out in 25% of his ABs)

John Tolisano: 1-for-2 with 2 walks on saturday, did not play sunday. .333/.538/.333

Moises Sierra: did not play saturday, 1-for-3 and hit by a pitch on sunday. .182/.308/.182

Also of note: Mark Sobolewski went 2-for-3 with a walk (.300/.462/.300) on sunday, B.J. LaMura struck out 8 and walked 1 in 6 innings on saturday. He gave up just 2 hits and no runs.

The Dunedin Blue Jays:

A.J. Jimenez: 0-for-2 with 2 walks on saturday, did not play sunday. .111/.273/.222

Asher Wojciechowski: took the mound on sunday, pitched 5 innings of scoreless baseball with 2 strikeouts and no walks. Of the (non-bunted) balls that were put in play against "Wojo", 61.5% were groundballs.

Also of note: Justin Jackson hit 2-for-3 on sunday (did not play saturday) and is now hitting .375/.400/.375. Chad Beck pitched saturday and struck out 7 batters while walking one in 5.1 innings. Gave up a solo homer as his only run against.

The Lansing Lugnuts:

(their season started on sunday, after three straight days of postponed games)

Carlos Perez: 3-for-5, 1 k.

Jake Marisnick: 1-for-4 with a walk.

K.C. Hobson: 2-for-5 with a double and a k.

Gustavo Pierre: 2-for-5. 2 errors in the field though.

Marcus Knecht: 1-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.

Michael Crouse: 2-for-5 with a home run and a strikeout.

Misaul Diaz: pitched just 2.1 innings giving up 5 runs total, but just 2 earned on 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 hit by pitch, just 1 strikeout. Balls in play were 69% groundballs though, so that's one positive for Misaul, who's pitching above the rookie levels for the first time.

Other notables: Drew Permison and Dayton Marze also had a rough first time in A-ball, both giving up 4 earned runs in relief (Permison in 1.1 IP, Marze in 2.1).

Has Cooper Finally figured it out??

Maybe he can keep this up, and if he’s changed something or finally put it together, could make for a nice call up to hit in the DH spot, even platoon with Rivera if required.. Hopefully the light has gone on and he’ll become the prospect they thought..

Spoke to Travis before yesterdays game

Saturday was an off day because of the extra long game Friday night and with Saturday being a day game. Plus they want Yan Gomes to play as well. No health/injury worries.

Thanks, it’s very good to get info from someone who’s watching the games instead of reading the play-by-play and the box scores. Gose is very young for AA though, so we should give him some time to figure things out.

Great stuff NHfishercatfan- thanks

Are any of your games televised? I was thinking about getting MiLB TV, but all see on their schedule are AAA games , which means very late nights to watch LV in the east.

I wish

They are on internet radio on wgiram.com but I have heard it won’t work in Canada for some reason.

No TV. They can’t even get 3K people in the seats most games unless the Red Sox team is here. No one came to see Ricky Romero, Marcum or Snider rehab, but when Jed Lowrie did the place was packed. They do sell 5K tickets most games, its just people don’t come.

Hey NHfishercatsfan

Would you please be able to do a fanpost about Manchester and surroundings? I’d like to visit some time this summer and hear what the locals have to say about what there is to do besides the Fisher Cats.

are you sure theyre not televised?

because i noticed when i was looking at mlbtv.com, you could spend an extra 10 bucks for the year and get milbtv as well. wouldn’t that mean you could watch the games if you bought that?

by asal313 on Apr 11, 2011 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder if milbtv is select games only.

I cant imagine ALL minor league games are televised, there are just too many with too little demand.

I think you'll find I'm universally recognised as a mature and responsible adult.

The Fisher Cats

Do not own video equipment and no tv stations are at the games, not even local access. On occasion the local news will show up with a news camera and film a few batters so they have something to show.

Road games may be different. I know the Portland Sea Dogs are occasionaly on NESN (the Red Sox Network) if the Red Sox and/or PawSox aren’t playing that night.

Sure

Give me a couple of days though. I am in the process of moving.

Vegas is starting to get quite the top of the order there

I’ve noticed Cooper’s been creeping up there, the only thing that might keep him from hitting cleanup is them not wanting to be target for a LOOGY.

For sure. Thankyou

I love these updates too.

H/T to NHfishercatsfan too

For keeping us abreast of developments in AA, where most of the serious and close prospects are.
