Minor League Recap: An abundance of good hitting on display.
Hey, I'm back. Let's dive straight into the notables from yesterday's minor league action.
Las Vegas:
The Good:
Brett Lawrie: 3-for-5, double, triple. .373/.413/.618
Chris Woodward: 3-for-4, double, strikeout. .333/.377/.561
Jonathan Diaz: 0-for-2, 2 walks. .222/.371/.259
Danny Farquhar: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO.
The Bad:
Adam Loewen: 0-for-4, 2 strikeouts. .225/.273/.350
The Other Notables:
Travis Snider: 1-for-3, walk, strikeout, stolen base. Balls in play were a groundball single and a flyout. So not that positive considering it's Moonraker in the PCL.
Brett Cecil: 6.2 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO. Only 30% of the balls he allowed in play were groundballs, but he induced a very high number of popups: also 30%.
New Hampshire:The Good:
Adeiny Hechavarria: 1-for-5, home run. .227/.244/.330. First home run of the season. Hopefully a turning point.
Moises Sierra: 3-for-4, strikeout. .328/.380/.469 and his line drive percentage (before this last game) was 29.1%. He might've been one of our best prospects if he hadn't been injured for so long.
Michael McDade: 2-for-4, double. .326/.356/.453 and so far he's struck out at lower percentage than last year in Dunedin, so that's impressive considering the difficulty of the jump to AA.
Zach Stewart: 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO. Got 68.4% (13 of 19) balls on the ground, so that's a good outing even though we'd like to see lots of strikeouts as well.
Alan Farina: 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO.
The Bad:
Jack Murphy: 0-for-4, 2 strikeouts. Recently promoted from Lansing, this was his first game at AA after just 12 at bats above rookie level. Backing up Yan Gomes while d'Arnaud is on the DL.
Dunedin (doubleheader):
The Good:
Chad Jenkins: 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO. Got 50% of the balls hit in play against him on the ground, so a very good start.
Justin Jackson: 4-for-7, home run, strikeout. .347/.441/.469
Brad McElroy: 2-for-6, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases. .256/.370/.436
Brad Glenn: 2-for-7, home run, walk, 2 strikeouts. .264/.309/.473
The Bad:
Sean Ochinko: 1-for-8. .145/.213/.217
Ryan Goins: 0-for-7, 4 strikeouts. .205/.244/.333
Lansing:
The Good:
Carlos Perez: 2-for-4, 2 doubles. .329/.383/.452
Jake Marisnick: 3-for-3, double, walk, stolen base. .350/.447/.575. Has 10 stolen bases, caught stealing 3 times.
Michael Crouse: 1-for-3, walk, strikeout, 2 stolen bases (10 SB, 1 CS on the year). .239/.342/.522 With 8 BB, 12 SO, lots of power but few line drives at just 9.3% so far.
Bryson Namba: 2-for-4, home run, double. .167/.250/.306
The Bad:
Marcus Knecht: 0-for-4, 2 strikeouts. .347/.418/.571
Gustavo Pierre: 0-for-4, 2 strikeouts. .197/.265/.224

Really appreciate the updates. But kind of disappointed that “awesomer!!!!!1” was not a poll option.

Should have had a "How many catchers can you pile into a mini-minor?" option as well...

that doesn't mean they're better, though
unless you think they’re starting slowly? hard to argue Cooper/Thames/Lawrie didn’t start off very hot…
Won't that have the same effect on their competition
Meaning they will continue to perform relatively (in terms of stats) as they are now, even if they are playing better baseball?

Snider is 5-7 with 2BBs through two games. Gonna be tough to figure out if any adjustment that he has or hasn’t made is having any effect…
I think you'll find I'm universally recognised as a mature and responsible adult.
Twitter is the thing with all the tweets...
Who knows how hard the hits he has are.
I think they are less concerned with home runs and more concerns with hitting the ball hard instead on getting under balls with his big arcing swing

Have you seen any NATO bombers on their way to Libya?

Call up Chris Woodward!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.333/.377/.561, hes going to be an all-star…
oh wait, its Vegas in the PCL.
Onions Baby Onions
I wonder if Hech would be better served working on his hitting mechanics at a lower level?
His line is awful. Probably not too easy to improve you’re hitting if you’re just trying to survive at the plate.
Onions Baby Onions
He was terrible at Dunedin last year, where there were no Spanish speaking coaches, and improved when he met up with Luis Rivera at NH. However, Rivera is no longer there, so I wonder if that has affected Hech…
Growing up in Cuba
Then playing night games in New Hampshjre in April. Not a pleasant experience for most anyone, but for a first timer, might affect them more than most.
I'd tend to agree
I’d put Gose in there too. Both of them are from warm climates and are getting their first taste of cold weather ball.
We(Canadians) might see 12c weather as the time to pull out the shorts and flip flops well they’re probably searching for their down filled winter jacket.
Any word on when Emaus is coming back?
I haven’t heard any news about him in a while.
