Jays sign 35th overall pick Jacob Anderson
As reported by Kendall Rogers from Perfect Game, the Jays have signed outfielder Jacob Anderson for $990,000. Jacob Anderson was selected by the Blue Jays in the supplemental first round in the MLB Draft this June with the 35th pick, acquired as compensation for the loss of Scott Downs. Anderson has good power potential, and there have been reports that he might be able to play center field. He was bought away from his commitment to Pepperdine University, a commitment that lead some to see him as very hard to sign, although he wasn't expected to be drafted this high. After the quick signing of Joe Musgrove, the 44th pick, Anderson is only the second pick from the first 15 rounds to sign so far. Most are expected to be above slot deals that won't be announced until deadline day, which is August the 15th.

I guess he really wanted to go pro

Maybe both
37. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'
An honest question
is 990,000$ at this slot considered cheap?

Slot for the 35th pick is around $900K
So he recieved about 10% over slot
In that case, it seems a fair deal for both sides (most AA deals are…). It’s not as big a surprise as some may think it is.
Unless… you truly believe at draftees’ “commitment” to a certain college. Personally, I don’t buy that.
