Great Start for Ricky Romero: Jays Beat Rays
Quick recap: we are podcasting tonight.
Great start for Ricky Romero, 8 innings, 1 hit, 4 walks, 7 strikeouts. The only hit was a Jennings home run. Jon Rauch got the save, giving up a couple of hits to keep us all interested, but he got 3 fly outs.
On offense Jose Baustista and Yunel Escobar homered and Rajai Davis had a 'clutch' RBI double to account for our runs.
Jays of the Day are Romero (.380 WPA), Yunel (.138) and Bautista (.108). Honorable mention to Davis for the double and the steal of third. No Jay had Suckage numbers.
I'll flesh this out some when we are finished chatting.

Yeah, Ricky!
Beauty start, woulda been nice to see some more hits from Colby, but not many leftys can hit well against Price.
Colby Rasmus is pretty good at baseball..

Really good job by Ricky
we didnt score alot vs Price but its still enough to get our 1st win off him. Tonight is all Ricky if not him we probably wont win
Nice Win.
Anyone else as excited as me to see Bautista end his HR “slump”?
Ricky looked dominant, hope he can keep this up.
Let’s keep this streak of great play going!
Cool Ricky
Almost got his no hitter, but not worry his time will come. Morrow let’s see if you can match this!
It would be nice to see Morrow match it, if he were pitching in this series.

Pretty great start by Ricky
Jose owns Price.
I think people’s expectations of Rasmus may be a bit high right now… he has been struggling all season, I don’t think he is going to turn it around straight away.
His BABIP is okay at .288.
His walk and K rates are good too, at about 11% and 20% respectively
His only issue right now is his inflated IFFB%… which, at 13% is more than double his 5%ish mark from his last 2 seasons. All his swing% data is right around his average…
I wonder what is making him pop-up so much right now? Just a timing thing?
Onions Baby Onions
maybe just bad luck
I can’t find any (statistical) reason for him to pop up so much either. maybe he’s just having a tough year? I dunno.
WAR... WAR never changes.
its probably just this. For no reason at all, I decided to check up Yunel and his IFFB% was 10.6. Before that, his highest was 3.6% and this year its at 1.2%.
I assume it could be something to do with facing the new AL pitchers..
Rasmus hasn’t seen barely any of these pitchers in the American League, which could screw with his timing and when to start his leg kick, I’m sure he’ll do better soon.
Colby Rasmus is pretty good at baseball..
he was popping out a lot in the NL too
so that doesn’t completely explain it
WAR... WAR never changes.
He's using Vernon's old locker.

I only get to see bits and pieces of games anymore...
But this one seemed like it was fun (for fans and players).
A hasty generalization from brief observations (and intuitive feelings): is this team really starting to gel together? The “younger” players and (leaders) are really taking shape on the team, no? Seems that the Blue Jays have been stuck in rebuilding mode for some time, but with the way AA razzles and dazzles, and the way the team is taking shape under “his” leadership… I’d say the Jays are on their way to being at least a contender for the WC next year…. of course, so long as they can immunize against the injury bug.

I always thought Jeremiah was a bullfrog...
my bad.
Don’t get too excited yet – the offense and defense are coming together nicely – the starting pitching and bullpen are both still not “contender” type quality. Close – but not quite cigar ready.
I’d say the Jays are on their way to being at least a contender for the WC next year…. of course, so long as they can immunize against the injury bug.
Don’t forget, they may expand the playoff format from 8 to 10 teams in the new CBA for next season.

Awesome!
I hadn’t seen that piece of news. I’m in favo[u]r of more playoff teams (in baseball) and as a Jays fan, provided there’s no realignment, adding a team or two to the playoffs would severely increase the chances they make the playoffs.

if they expand the playoffs
i think its a no-brainer that we are contenders for a playoffspot.
if they don’t, it will take some luck, but its very probable.

Feels great giving the Rays a taste of their own medicine.
Hope the Jays win tomorrow to jump ahead of the Rays in the standings.

after listening to Colby's pregame interview..
I’ve decided Boomhauer would be a perfect nickname for him.
Gibbons sounded more like Boomhauer than Rasmus.
With that said, the two do look alike.
