It's odd how it Joe Maddon always seems to be the exception among managers

The Rays have one hell of a manager, that’s for sure. I really hope Farrell learns a lot from him.

manny acta is also very knowledgable on sabermetrics

but for some reason he doesn’t really apply it.

I think I read...

…in “Baseball Between the Lines” that a quick and dirty rule of thumb for batting order is OPS. That would still have JPA behind Rivera and Hill.

No it wouldn't

Juan: .695 OPS
Hill: .597 OPS
JP: .732 OPS

As well

at the time when this was happening, back in may or whatever JPs numbers were higher

My mistake...

… it was OBP, not OPS. I have a brain cramp when typing and didn’t pick it up proofreading.

yea that makes more sense

it would definitely put Juan ahead of JP, but hill is still lacking behind although they are very close

This line in the article...

The consensus conclusion should be that most managers in baseball are stupid.

…was the flag to not read anything by this writer again.
I am willing to bet that all managers (and most definitely John Farrell) have forgotten more baseball than a writer who would be so foolish as to call these 30 men ‘stupid’.
Not true at all, and not very classy.

yeah, there are a lot of things wrong with that article

but basically, the easiest ways for a new writer/blog to get hits is to just be extreme. I don’t agree with what the writer says, but its an opinion nontheless.

I demand to be heard.

Yes I agree

I should not have been so rash, but I edited the article to change it up to more of what I was trying to get at being that not that the managers are all stupid, but instead that the decisions that they are making are old timey decisions and decisions that would have been made in 90’s, 80’s etc and that they are sticking to what happened when they were playing rather than better utilizing new technology and moving along with baseball.

As well

The post was meant to be a rant more than anything, I may have gone a little overboard, but it was a rant.

My other posts are still opinionated, but to a lesser extent

this post was just more than anything meant to be a rant on the placing of brett lawrie in the lineup. you may agree or disagree, but either way it creates conversation

Personally

I think that batting a young player lower in the lineup screams “Hey, if you can get us a few hits it’d be nice but don’t be worried about 0-4 games” more than “You are terrible so your batting 9th”

I have a problem with Thames batting 2nd and I think JPA should remain 9th, with Lawrie 6th or 7th for the rest of the season (With Thames at 8th). I would argue it would be much better for their development hitting in a low pressure situation. Just my opinion.
