Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

Blue Jay News: Brett Cecil Scratched, Dustin McGowan In

Brett Cecil has a cut on his left index finger and will miss tonight's start, but he should be ready to go the next time through the rotation. Dustin McGowan will make the start, against the Yankees, instead.

Didn't Cecil cut his finger another time? Was it spring training this year or last year? Must have been last year. Keep him away from knives.

From Shi Davidi:

Brett Cecil cut his finger cleaning out blender. Not one for the kitchen it seems.

And it was Cecil's thumb that he cut in Spring Training 2010.

Yeah!

Last time he cut his finger, he learned how to throw a wicked change up. Perhaps this time he’ll learn the knuckler.

I'm pretty sure the Gyroball is of Japanese origin

I know what a gyro is

but McBluejays was referring to the gyroball, not the gyro

Cut his finger in a blender?

a) blenders today tend to have a safety mechanism which prevents the unit from going on (like the container cover must be on)
b) he was using his finger as a stirrer with it plugged in? iq check please.
c) just sliced his finger…it would have been mashed/chewed/chopped/pureed
d) must we believe this hooey?
e) if it’s true I dont know I have confidence in his on-mound decision making

He cut while cleaning it. I’ve done that before… took apart the blender, soaked the blades, and then got a small cut while not practicing proper care while scrubbing.

Yeah

And you’re not supposed to put nice blenders into the dishwasher.

Hire a maid Cecil

Or just throw out the blender when it’s dirty, and buy a new one.
Has MC Hammer taught you nothing?!?

He'd be in a great mood all day

"The AL Beast" was an intelligent pun the first time it was used. That time was not at any point in the last 5 years. JUST STOP.

If this was in another thread I apologize, but what does everyone think of Blair's

article in the globe and mail saying Beeston won’t ok 6 or 7 year contracts so basically forget about Fielder in the off season

by ClintB on Sep 16, 2011 5:12 PM EDT reply actions

I havent read the piece but

I lean towards Beeston’s position with the caveat that if it were your own player and he was a boffo talent and young I would be ok with the > than 5 yr. deal. The guaranteed money for the long period extending into the declining years is just not good business most of the time. ARod maybe a poster example for this over the next year.

by Bendit on Sep 16, 2011 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I think stating that you won't do it is a bad move.

course, I’m still looking for an actual quote from Paul Beeston saying that he wouldn’t do it. I think making a blanket policy is a mistake. Each case should be taken on it’s own.

I blog, therefore I am.

It is unfortunate that each of the Yankees & the RSox have

great local TV deals which funds their FA signings. At some point owners do not want to run losses to compete with larger pockets especially when you have shot all your bullets and the FAs for some reason dont work out wonderfully (Burnett, Ryan). Even the Sox are feeling it with the Crawford and DiceK/Lackey signings but they have those tv resources to make up for the mistake in other areas. AA is doing well so far trying to emulate the Rays m.o. We can probably do it once and it better not be the wrong choice. It sucks I know but it’s really the inequality of market areas in the AL east with the Orioles just making some v bad choices.

I just read the article in question...

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/same-results-different-outlook-for-blue-jays/article2168254/

doesn’t sound too inspiring. Although I agree with going after pitching it would still be nice if the Jays looked at adding a proven bat to the line-up. It saddens me AA won’t be able to shop on either Fielder or Pujols, if that part is 100% accurate :-(
