It's a good comination for sure.

Whenever a guy who gets a ton of grounders or strikeouts limits the walks like Alvarez has so far, they can get away with doing a lot less of the third thing while maintaining great numbers.

And why he can be effective against teams like the Yankees and Red Sox

Very patient approach will lead them to lots of 0-1 or 0-2 counts against Alvarez, forcing them to swing earlier. Since he allows a lot of groundballs, he won’t allow as many home runs. That takes away from their usual “take as many pitches as possible” game, as well as limits their ability to hit the long ball.

Now, he might have some troubles against more aggressive hitting teams (like the troubles Doc had against the Rangers).

I prefer Lawrie’s STYLE of play to Bautista, or any player that doesn’t play like Lawrie. I don’t understand how this is a debatable issue. Who wouldnt?

I disagree with your point that a player should be allowed to loaf it because he has more power or baseball ability.
