Wow, nice!
Can anyone tell me the last time a Jays affiliate won its respective championship?
The man in the white shirt.
lansing are still trying too, but down 3-1, in game 3 after losing the first two games
I blog, therefore I am.
Okay, before that
Haha, I forgot about that. Or is this really the sort of thing that happens quite often?
The man in the white shirt.
New Hampshire won it in 2004
Not completely sure if that’s the last one but I think it is.
Nope it isn't
Auburn won in 2007

Must've sucked to lose a championship series on an error.
Congrats Fisher Cats! They seem like a great group of players.

can you imagine the hitting though? Gose, D’Arnaud, McDade, Sierra, Hech… damn

hmm
I don’t see that as elite, actually. There’s a heck a lot of potential in Gose and d’Arnaud, but the other guys don’t strike me as being much better than average. NH was carried a lot by the good pitching.

yeah but they can still put up great numbers in Vegas and they are young enough to improve too

Big congrats to the Fisher Cats!
Too bad Lasing ran into the hotter than hot Quad City River Bandits who just completed their sweep of the Championship series. But they had a great season, and so did Dunedin and Bluefield.

Really interesting stuff here from DJF
Keith Law talking about what was going on between him and Michael Lewis. Really really good read stuff here.

well, I see no reason why Law wouldn't do his best to portray JP in that image

I wish we still had Law
though I guess if he was still on staff we wouldn’t be able to enjoy his snark.

yup
I’m happy he works for ESPN. I doubt he’d be so accesible if he still worked for an MLB Org.

I also don't get the extreme hate for KLaw at DJF
but then again, its DJF. Nothing in the comment section is worth reading.

yeah, wow
I thought Jays fans generally liked him.

there are some people who have good comments but there are tons of dumb people there who just pick fights with other posters.
The hate of KLaw probably comes from what he said about Yunel (something about him having a bad body and I don’t think he liked the trade), Bautista (said something about being a terrible contract and thought he was going to regress to his old self like Brady Anderson).
He also comes off as an arrogant douche.

In fact, you can listen to his view on Yunel’s trade. http://www.fan590.com/media.jsp?content=20100714_180917_8656

At least Law has seen the error of his ways
How about JP though? So many lost years for us Jays fans. And the flim-flam man kept getting extensions from Godrfey!

I love having a good Minor League system!
Not changing my signature until Hechavarria is promoted to the big leagues.
[Funny phrase about how few followers I have on Twitter]
I just saw an interesting idea on MLBTR
basically, the idea is to trade (or sell) a player and his contract for money straight up, which happens sometimes, but not with major players. The specific example was James Shields and his contract for $100M. Sounds like an interesting idea to me, though I doubt Selig would sign off on it ever.
Thoughts?

Interesting thought
I’m sure the Jeffrey Lorias of the world would salivate at this, selling off his players for money that can be pocketed. The Commissioner’s Office would have to establish standards of what constitutes a fair value for a player in order to approve the contract.
This model hasn’t been seen on this side of the pond, but isn’t this how player transfers work in the Premier League in Europe?

Of course
this method would give a ridiculous advantage to rich teams, even more than before.

Eh, only kinda similar
The major difference with soccer (everywhere (except the MLS), not just the EPL — it’s a worldwide transfer system) is that every time a play is transferred, he negotiates a new contract with the team he’s moving to. This leads to the second major difference: The player can choose which teams he’s willing to go to.
"The AL Beast" was an intelligent pun the first time it was used. That time was not at any point in the last 5 years. JUST STOP.

It'll never happen
Something like that would destroy baseball by creating even more disparity than already exists between the haves and have nots imo. O’Finley tried years back to do that and the Comish stopped it invoking the “in the best interests of baseball act”.
Selling players was tried by O's owner Charlie Finley in 1976
Rejected by the Commissioner for not being in the best interests of baseball. Finley took him to court and lost.
