After getting scratched from his last start due to a blender related incident Brett Cecil is back on the mound looking to finish strong in his last start at home.
I want to believe that there is going to be a bigger crowd at the old dome tonight but I honestly don't believe it. On one hand it is really sad that the crowd wasn't bigger for the last home series of the year but on the other hand I understand how it is. Shi Davidi said it sickened him how low the attendance was and that the pre-season game for the Leafs and Sens probably outdrew the game (Pretty sure it did). I tend not to get mad about these things, partly because I am a hockey fan and partly because of the situation. The Jays are finishing up another year in 4th place and yet another year of not reaching the playoffs. Given that, am I surprised that a mid-week game at the end of another finished season with no playoffs paired against the first hockey Toronto has seen in months drew poorly? Nope. The Jays get fantastic TV coverage with every game being televised and for the most part widely available. Maybe I could do with different announcers but at least I can watch the team, and better yet they actually do well in ratings. Basically I just don't want people to get too upset about hockey coverage in the country, yes we get it, you don't like hockey, but it's Canada and thats what popular so can we stop complaining about it already? If I see another baseball/hockey fight break out in the comments I'm bringing out the hammer.

Going Going Zaun is clearly not a big fan of Brett Cecil hahaha… I gotta agree though. I think Cecil’s long term future, if it’s with the Jays, will be coming out of the pen. I think he caught lightning in a bottle last season and I don’t think we should ever expect him to pitch that well again. I do think, however, that his funky delivery and plus changeup would make him a fine lefty out of the pen. Kind of our newer version of Jesse Litsch, imo.

I just feel that with guys like Hutchinson, Molina, McGuire, and Syndergaard climbing the ranks that he’ll eventually settle in nicely into the bullpen. And yes, he’d make an excellent 5th starter… I just feel that our future 5th starter in say, 2013, will be better! That’s how good I think our rotation can be a few years down the road.

Definitely not next year, and that is true, there could and probably will be setbacks. However, maybe I should clarify that I’m thinking long-term… like, hopefully our next playoff run long term… and I just don’t see Cecil being in our rotation by then. I’m thinking there’ll be a pitcher acquired through a trade or FA and I don’t know how secure his spot is. I like him though, so I hope he sticks.

Well, I wrote a MSc thesis, so it fit into an 1.5 in folder
But I did write that at the same time as I wrote a book chapter (on a different topic). Writing comes fast when deadlines approach!

Let's rehash history for a minute here...
If you could do it all over again and hop in the BBB time machine, would you hire John Farrell or Butterfield? That’s the only move that I ever disagreed with AA on when it happened. Otherwise, he’s been flawless in my book. Farrell reminds me of Ron Washington. Old school approach, tried teaching (and in Washington’s case succeeded) a slugging team a new approach with an added emphasis on defense, bunting, stealing bases, and going 1st to 3rd more frequently.
I just wish I coulda seen Butter get a chance with Toronto. He certainly has “paid his dues.”

Agreed on the importance of a manager
But I just didn’t care for the message it seemingly sent. Butter has been a loyal servant to the team for years now and has been one of the best coaches on the staff for years. He’s also very well thought of throughout the game. I guess you can say the same about Farrell though.

Great story about Vernon… I was working at an Outback Steakhouse in Queens, New York City. Two years ago, Vernon came in after a game against the Yankees and sat at one of my tables with his father, wife, kids, nanny. He ordered a mac and cheese with a bbq chicken breast if you were wondering. Amazingly nice man with a great family. I’m always rooting for him.

I was stunned
The hostess tells me “you’ve got a party of 7, 2 high chairs for the kids” and I was pissed since only a party of 8 is automatic gratuity. I went to take their drink order and almost fainted. Somehow, I held it together pretty well, until I brought the drinks and apps out and asked “is there anything else I can get for you Mr. Wells?” He asked if I was a fan and I went to the back and got my black Wells jersey that he had signed when I was up in Toronto years ago with a silver sharpie. His dad gave me a brochure of the artwork he does for all the athletes that want portraits. His wife even let me hold his son Christian. It was insane!

Hey so i'm thinking of making a drinking game based on Buck/Tablerisms.
So far i’ve got:
Big n Strong off, especially in the late innings
-Playing the game the right way
-Pound down
-Yankees/Red Sox mention in non Yankees/Red Sox game
-Knowing how to win
-You can never write -insert opposing team
-Use of asininely small sample sizes
Any suggestions? Can’t be anything as vague as general idiocy, because i don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s alcohol poisoning.
