by benk on Sep 24, 2011 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Why not?

If the choice is between a 1-game playoff or not even getting a chance at the playoffs, it’s pretty obvious which is better.

by Nadia on Sep 24, 2011 7:48 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

why not?

the way it currently stands there’s practically no benefit to winning your division over the WC. with a 1 game playoff, you have to use your best pitcher (and thus are at a disadvantage playing in the “real” series)

by benk on Sep 24, 2011 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

But the reality of the wild card

is that it typically is won by a team better than some division leaders, because of the inequality between divisions.

by Playoffs!!!!1 on Sep 24, 2011 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

but they're not good enough to win their own division

I get your point, but what you’re implying requires no-divisional alignment to fix

by benk on Sep 24, 2011 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

and plenty of the time

the WC winner isn’t better than some divisional winners

by benk on Sep 24, 2011 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Why do the Jay have the 2nd highest ticket prices in MLB?

by Nadia on Sep 24, 2011 8:38 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Silly

Since they haven’t sniffed the playoffs in ages. Not sure if lower prices would bring more fans but they don’t seem to be making too much effort to improve attendance.

hmm so based on average price

and ours is $71, the price for the padded 100 level seats (ones around home plate), the only tickets that cost more are the “in the action seats” and VIP club seats

I don’t see how our average was $71, there are WAAAAAAY more seats lower then $71

because they need something "funky"

they are essentially “failed” Sps for the most part but disguise their 2 good pitches well for a inning or two (once around the order). My take.

by Bendit on Sep 24, 2011 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't have to pace themselves like starters

So instead of 100 fast balls at 92 MPH, its 25 at 94.

by Mike Andrew on Sep 24, 2011 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah I know that but man these relievers have so many weird looking deliveries. Annoys me for some reason

by Sniderlover on Sep 24, 2011 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeh but that's why!

Like if Morrow became a closer he could add another 2 MPH to his pitches and get more break on his offspeed by adding a jerk or two. Its mechanics.

A reliever throws as hard as he can, a starter paces themselves.

The deliveries with pauses tick me off…

Cooper is awful.

He CANNOT field his position, and anyways, his bat doesn’t really play at 1b or DH.

by Vogelscheuche on Sep 24, 2011 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

Too be honest

I think players can learn 1B. Sure you can say a player can never learn 2B or CF, but 1B anybody can learn.

His bat is good, I would give him time.

by Mike Andrew on Sep 24, 2011 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

He has been playing 1B for years professionally.

His bat is Overbay ceiling. No thank you. I’d still take Lind over him any day.

by Vogelscheuche on Sep 24, 2011 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Come on ...

He is having a bad game, but he has been playing sporadically at best since the end of the AAA season. Reports on his defense is that it is solid if unspectacular. Agreed that his upside is not that great, but he is no where near as bad as you make it seem.

by Playoffs!!!!1 on Sep 24, 2011 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Lyle Overbay isn't an insult or stretch

They both had high BA’s in the minors, but David Cooper has shown much more power. (Much higher slugging percentage).

He could hit .280/.350/.450 for his career in the Majors. Sure his defense hasn’t been good this game but in the minors only 6 errors in 106 games. Hes a doubles machine that can hit both sides.

Cooper still hit 20 HR’s 2 years ago in AA. Don’t rule him out for 10 a year in the majors.

by Mike Andrew on Sep 24, 2011 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

We could get some good value for Lind in a trade market

I’m a fan of higher BA and lower HR’s at 1B anyways, we got enough power at RF.

by Mike Andrew on Sep 24, 2011 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Lind has a team friendly contract, higher upside, etc.

But I’m hoping Cooper is not on the active roster next year.

by Vogelscheuche on Sep 24, 2011 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

What makes you think it is even possible he would be?

Of course he isn’t going to get a spot over Lind or EE, so it will be back to the minors unless someone gets injured for sure.

by Playoffs!!!!1 on Sep 24, 2011 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, was just saying because people were suggesting trading Lind.

That would leave Cooper as starting 1b next year barring trades/FA.

by Vogelscheuche on Sep 24, 2011 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

no it wouldn't

it would make EE the starting 1B

by Playoffs!!!!1 on Sep 24, 2011 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with EE owning 1B

and Cooper filling in when they need EE elsewhere (3B,LF)

by Mike Andrew on Sep 24, 2011 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Highly doubt it

The batting champion sent back to the minors?

1 of the 2 (or 3) are going to get traded. AA doesn’t just jam players in AAA when there is no space (JPA)
