Shorter Griffin: Colby Rasmus trade was awful because St. Louis made the Playoffs. Lawrie, Bautista and Romero rule. AA is meh.

I don't get Lind as a B

Or several other marks.

I blog, therefore I am.

That AA Grade was the real head-scratcher

He admits that AA is building for tomorrow, but grades him on the results of this season. Apparently getting rid of Vernon Wells’ contract, acquiring our third baseman of the next 7-10 years, signing Escobar and Romero to team-friendly contracts, and turning Corey Patterson and some interchangable relievers for a centre fielder with huge upside value was just enough for a B- grade. Given that Rasmus was injured for a fair chunk of his time here, I don’t think his grade was fair. He probably should have been shut down after rehabbing at NH so Loewen and Mastro could get some AB and build up their trade-bait value.

B-? For AA?

Getting rid of Vernon Wells’ contract is cause enough for a A-.

Trading for Lawrie? Moves it up to an A.

Rasmus should have gotten an incomplete. This was a wasted season for him. It seemed he was starting to come around when he got injured and never really got his timing down after he came back.

At the time of the Rasmus trade, the former Expos PR guy forgot that the Cards WERE in contention and then stumbled till late Aug by that point most everyone wrote them off. They might have been done if it hadn’t been for those stumbling Braves.

I thought the Jays ended up where I suspected them to be.

Around .500. I didn’t think the bullpen wouldn’t have been awful as it was, but goes to show the volatility of relievers and what blown saves can do.

The only real disappointment in my mind was Cecil especially the beginning of the season. As pointed out by many, he’s got to get his pitches down in the zone otherwise he’s not going to last long because he doesn’t have the stuff to pitch up in the zone.

I hope that Drabek will be better next year. Having looked over his MIL stats, this is the first year he’s ever been ass kicked and he’s not used to that. Hopefully he can take a breather and come back better to deal with getting his ass kicked.

I projected them ending the season with an 81-81 record, so they ended up exactly where I expected them to finish. As such, I’m not really surprised or disappointed in the team. With the way things went with the Jays’ farm system, and how some of the Jays rookies played, I’m quite pleased with the season the Jays had for the future. Though, I also projected the Rays to finish 85-77 and 3rd in the division. Boy do they know how to surprise!

I thought a bullpen full of mostly average arms = average bullpen. They were pretty average for most of the season, and got worse (as should be expected) after the Rasmus trade. Luckily, a team’s relief corps is probably the easiest the replace.

I thought Drabek’s season was pretty disappointing as well, even though it’s probably just a bump in the road for him. He needs to improve his control.

Scratch that

I predicted the Jays to win 82 games.

Alvarez an A+? McGowan an A+? Romero an A+? Carreno an A+? Molina an A+?

The only legitimate A+ we have is Bautista. I could see an argument for Lawrie but in my opinion he’s not an A+ either. Oh Griffin.

they are being graded on performance against personal expectations

by Hit&Run on Sep 29, 2011 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Even so

that’s an extremely easy marking scheme there. I don’t see how all those players get A+s while Drabek and Rasmus gets a D. Was he expecting the above players to be completely crap and Drabek and Rasmus to be all stars?

Of course, it was pointed out yesterday on Twitter that for some reason, catching overall received a B while the two catchers got A- and A+ individually. Did Jeroloman drag the average down for not playing?

The article said it was graded performence vs expectations the play of both was a “B” but since he didn’t expect them to play as a “B” they recieved a higher grade.

Low expectations + average play = high grade. According to the way he chose to write his article

by Hit&Run on Sep 29, 2011 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Was the tweet referring to actual play and not how well he thought he were going to play? I didn’t see it. anyways I guess I’m for no reason then
