Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Jays Sign Carlos Villanueva

Jays signed Carlos Villanueva to a one year, $2,277,500 contract (strange number). That leaves the Jays with four arbitration eligible players remaining (Ben Francisco, Casey Janssen, Brandon Morrow, and Kelly Johnson). We should hear about them in the next couple of hours.

Update: The deadline for submitting arbitration numbers has come and gone and the Jays still have the four players unsigned, though it might just be a delay in announcing the signings. We should hear soon who has and hasn't signed.

Just did a quick run of the numbers, and looks like the Blue Jays 2012 payroll will be around $78.46 million (including arbitration raises).

4 to go

Would not b surprised to see arb hearing for Johnson and Janssen (to a lesser extent, since he’s FA eligible next year anyway).

Francisco…who knows, I didn’t understand that pick anyway.

Morrow…hopefully they work it out, if not a much longer extension

Deadline to exchange arbitration figures has passed, but #Bluejays often make us wait before announcing things. #jays

And as a reminder:

Francisco, Janssen, Johnson, Morrow remain arb-eligible & unsigned, AA policy is no talks on 1yr deals once no.‘s exchanged. #bluejays #jays
So long term extensions (likely for Morrow) are still on the table. I’d think Johnson will just go to arb unless the Jays haven’t annouced a 1 year deal for him yet. Don’t see him wanting to sign long term.
