You've all seen the photo, hear what Big Eric has to say about his massive guns.

Tom: You skipped the important part, Bluebird Banter was mentioned. A quote from siggian was used:
One commenter on Bluebirdbanter.com suggested "Mr. Thames" is beginning to look more like "Mr. T."

Since it's mainstream now

Can we use it as Thames’ nickname?

12 now! Going back up.

Thanks friendly friends. We’ll get to 1K eventually and show those Rays and Yankee fans who really owns the interwebs.

Keep on ‘liking’ and if you already have, feel free to post on our wall. Any random things remotely related to this site or baseball in general is welcome.

Beyond the awesome sauce of a BBB shout-out in the MSM that’s an interesting story. Hope his regaining his mass won’t lead to the injuries reoccuring. Glad to hear that he’s been using the offseason to work on his D.

Indeed, his slugging percentage was .797 in July, .811 in August and .651 in September.

Well now

His 2011 wRC+ is 26

Eh?

Well now what? Or is it that you are amazed that a MSM writer is using a stat other then Batting Average and Ribeyes?

by Parallex on Jan 18, 2012 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

Oh… Now I feel stupid not knowing what you meant (and for not catching that myself).

if anyone is bored

and looking for something to read a blog called Hypocritical Sports Fan started doing the top 30 prospects the other day, they also do positional primers, pretty good stuff.

Can never get sick of jays primers… thanks for the recommendation, good site!

Kinda like Jays Journal

Not quite as comprehensive, and not really scouting reports either.

But as you say, at this time of year, any Blue Jays content is good Blue Jays content

Wow that was really interesting.

Barnes specifically, who they claimed could get a serious look out of Spring Training as a left-handed relief pitcher even this year. I’m not so sure of that, but that is a name that came out of no where for being so close.

by brigstew on Jan 18, 2012 11:46 PM EST up reply actions

That seems pretty far-fetched

He just finished A ball, making the team out of Spring Training, or even getting serious consideration for that, would be pretty incredible.

His 2011 wRC+ is 26

by Pikachu on Jan 18, 2012 11:57 PM EST up reply actions

Yep

I’d imagine he’d do well to get to AA this year

Some Interesting stuff here
Thames got into yoga after realizing that his muscle mass was leading to injuries.
"It’s amazing how weak my arm was in terms of the small muscles,"
"I think there will be a lot of people shocked this spring," he added.

Let’s hope! Only 4 more weeks, roughly to pitchers and catchers reporting

BSOHL

hope he does well in ST

TOLD YOU GUYS

It was just a picture. Its easy to go from skinny to “jacked” in a couple of months. Near impossible to go from “JACKED”(Like Mr T) to “SUPER JACKED” in that short time. That said; Thames should be doing some EYE YOGA —-His judgement of the ball, off the bat, is what is needs bulking up.

by Hyepwrd on Jan 18, 2012 2:22 PM EST reply actions

I'm not a personal trainer by any means

But if you’re already “jacked,” chances are you know what works for your body and its easier for you to put on more muscle. As opposed to going from “skinny” to jacked, where its a complete transformation.

Not trying to argue semantics, just saying.

by Aidin on Jan 18, 2012 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

Not really true tbh

The reason most gyms are filled with jacked people but very few super jacked people is because of plateaus. Once something works for you and you add muscle, eventually it stops and you have to start working twice as hard for half the gains. The law of diminishing returns.

I may not be a personal trainer either but I have one and frequently work out.

by Mike Andrew on Jan 18, 2012 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

Having bounced around in regards to muscle mass over the years,

I think the biggest thing is muscle memory. It took me several years as a kid to put on 20 lbs of muscle, but when I go back to weight training after an extended absence (like, several years), I can put back on much of that weight over a very short period of time.

That is, it’s much easier to regain muscle. If Mr. T was 230 lbs. several years ago, it’s much easier to put on weight than if he was putting it on for the first time.
