Gerardo Concepcion
18 year old lefty from Cuba. Jays one of the names that are interested (shocking, i know). It would be nice to end the off season with a signing like this.

I haven't heard much praise on his stuff
the (rare) scouting reports on him say that he’s a finesse type. Not sure I like that.
His 2011 wRC+ is 26
I’ve heard that too, but at 18 i think there is still progression to be made. Someone in the comments posted he’s sitting 89-91 toping out at 92 but as he gets older that should creep up maybe to around 94. Plus the curve and change are reported to be promising. I’d be willing to take a chance to add that kind of lefty arm into the system.
we dont need another young pitcher. I think a hitter would be better like the obvious choices in Soler and Cespedes.
Disagree
We need as much young talent as possible, to the extent that it can be signed with a cost less than the evaluation of the talent
Agreed,
You never hear any gm ever say they have too much good young pitching. For the very reason that surplus pitching can be traded for hitting. I think that the jays should be pursuing any young, skilled international players this year before the cap on spending takes effect.

Is Conception under the new CBA?
If so, I’m not enthusiastic. If, on the other hand, his bonus doesn’t count towards the Int’l cap, I’m all for paying the going rate.

Cespedes might help now...
… if we needed him, but he’s a fair bit older than Concepcion and probably isn’t worthy of being called a “prospect”. What you see is what you get; he’s an international free agent – full stop.
