I'm doing the Italy thing because I want a new experience, really. I've played in, written about, & trained for Pro US ball my whole life
Dirk Hayhurst is off to Italy. It sounds great.

We have enough problems...
…attracting free agents. Imagine how it would be if players worried that their antics would appear in some future Hayhurst book.

Players don't seem to worry over much to share their antics on twitter

Unless he gets hit really hard
In which case, embarrassing. But still, Italy!

I hope eventually he goes to Japan
Would love to see him write a book on his experience in the NPB.
I am the one who knocks.
Warren Cromartie wrote a really good book about his experiences there.
I blog, therefore I am.

Maybe one day he'll suit up for the ol' Maple Leafs and play Intercounty baseball\

Not really
The team behind them is one point behind, with two games in hand. They average slightl over a point per game. So probabilistically, the Panthers should get more points in those two games in hand, and there’s something just under a 25% chance that they do not get at least the one point needed to tie.
To your last point, the Panthers would need more than 1 point though
Because the Leafs hold an advantage in the tie-break
I was not aware of that
I don’t really follow the Leafs, more than peripherally – I generally prefer to mock them than to follow them (there’s a lot of material that’s frankly too good to let go). Nonetheless, for whatever reason I watched the third period last night and found myself cursing at the TV in disbeLeaf – kind of like when the Jays gave up a walk-off Grand Slan against Cleveland just before the All-Star Break or when Tallet came in for the 10th in August against the OrioLOLes and blew it, after a 9th inning rally to tie and go ahead runs in the top of 10.
So, basically, if we use the Panthers actual W-L-OL as their “true likelihood” of having those events occur, they’d have the following point expectations for those two games:
4: 21.0%
3: 28.6%
2: 30.8%
1: 14.3%
0: 5.3%
So actually, my earlier estimate was pretty much spot on, albeit for the wrong reason. I underestimated the Panthers’ chance of getting at least 1 point, which is closer to 95% than 75%. There’s something like an 80% chace that Florida gets 2 or more points from the 2 games in hand (ceteris parabis)
Been There Done That....
Take a look in your favourite book store for BASEBALLISSIMO by Toronto writer/muscian Dave Bidini (Rheostatics). He spent a year back in 02 ‘playing’ for the Nettuno Peonies (really) in the IBL SerieB.
Not the best writer but a very interesting revelation into the Italian Minor Leagues.
Apparently Geddy Lee has bought the film rights (really). – DRK

Me reading this article is highly correlated with me putting in a Kindle pre-order for Dirk Hayhurst’s new book.
